Middle East Post-Op Surgery Experience

Recommended Posts

I just two weeks out post surgery for banding in Doha, Qatar. It was a very painful experience post surgery as they do not use Morphine, Demerol or Fentanyl for pain. They only use drugs from the Panadol (Tylenol) family. Not very effective in fighting pain. I had nausea post surgery and since I am a nurse I knew to ask for anti-nausea medication and I had to insist otherwise I don't think they would have given it to me.

Just a warning, the anethesiologist is lousy at Al Emadi hospital. She is a woman, who managed to chip my two front teeth, and I had sores in my mouth where she did protect my tongue properly while I was intubated. I also had a bad throat infection post surgery. Not sure if this was due to intubation or not. I complained to the Doctor (who is fab).

Good-news lost 14 pounds so far.

Mabrouk on your weight loss. But they chipped your teeth , what is that?

I also had a sore throat, but not an infection. I am so happy now, I have lost 45 lbs. I still throw up and it is not easy. But it is worth it. There is another guy from Qatar who was doing great!

Jelbel.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
