aussie_jode 0 Posted May 29, 2005 I tried coming back here with every good intention, post my food diary etc, but after day2 I have stuffed up continually. I am officially announcing that due to stress related reasons I am addicted to carbs and have been for a few months I think. After using fitday and monitoring what I am eating I have a HUGE deficit of Protein and an overabundance of carbs. I am considering doing the Atkins induction program for a couple of weeks to get me out of this terrible phase that has sucked me in like a blackhole! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I would love to hear peoples opions on this. Personally it has worked before , so I expect it will work again.... :cry
Guest j. lynn Posted May 29, 2005 It's tough. I'll give you that. I had an issue with sweets about 2 weeks back. 1 won't kill you, but 1 several times a day adds up. It's hard. To break my habit, I told myself: "today I will not snack on those. Just for today." That was a Monday. Then on Tuesday I told myself: "I will not snack on those. I did it yesterday and I can do it again today." Each day got a little easier and easier until it became a habit. The first day is always the hardest. Alexandra 55 Posted May 29, 2005 The only way to break that carb habit is to break it all the way. It's definitely hard but when you stop eating carbs the cravings really do diminish. Whether you want to follow Atkins or just chuck anything that smacks of bad carbs, either will work. And it will get easier.
La_madam 20 Posted May 29, 2005 Carbs crave carbs,so the more carbs you eat the nore you want and the same applies for sugar. Try starting your day with strictly Protein and see if you notice a diference in your hunger and carveings throughout the day. It works great for me, but if I start my day with any kind of carbs in the morning I am carving carbs all day long and feel like I am starving.
shirley rohr 0 Posted May 29, 2005 If I eat or drink artifical sweetners , I crave sugar. How come?
vinesqueen 2 Posted May 29, 2005 Jody, I would say do the Atkins thing only because you know it worked for your before. I don't know the answer to your question Shirly, but lots of people report the same sort of craving. Some think that it is because the artificial sweeteners are sooo sweet that it sets you up for wanting more sweet.
aussie_jode 0 Posted May 29, 2005 thanks everyone. Carbs do crave carbs indeed, and the 'worse' my carb choices are, the bigger is my 'need' for more. One biscuit last week has turned into a packet, plus cakes, chocs, whatever is in view when I am down the street. Its terrible. Fortunately, we don't really have much of this stuff at home. Guests brought the biscuits last week and thats why I got to have them. The worse thing is that I have figured out how to eat bread.< /p> So thats it. No unnecessary carbs for me for a week or two, till its over and done with - out of my system. :rambo
bandit 2 Posted May 29, 2005 Youll do great!! I did that receintly and the first week was the hardest. I havnt had a craving in a while. I cut out ALL carbs for now. Basically Atkins induction untill I feel strong enough to eat some fruit without getting cravings. I havnt really lost too much weight but I havnt gained any either. By the way those sugar substitutes make me crave sugar even worse too so I dont go near them either.
DeLarla 22 Posted May 29, 2005 I'm not ignoring you, I'm just in the same boat. Carb junkie all the way. I did quit sugar for almost two years once, but that was a long, long time ago. If I could just make it through one little day....
NancySmiles 2 Posted May 29, 2005 The ONLY thing that worked for me was going "back to the basics"....kind of a "cleansing" period. I went back on my pre-surgery liquid diet for a week, then the mushy stage for a few days, and so on.....This happened to me at Christmas and it was the ONLY way I could get back on track. And you are all right....the cravings DO go away! I am starting this today again, to get back on track....good luck! Nancy

DeLarla 22 Posted May 30, 2005 It's kind of like catching a wave. It's hard to jump on one, but once you got it, ride it all the way home! I keep waiting for that wave to pass so I can jump on. It's like everything has to be perfect: It has to be past my PMS time of the month, it can't be around a holiday, my frame of mind has to be in the right place, then whammo, I'm on board and riding the band-food-friendly train. If you have one day down, tomorrow will be that much easier. Maybe I'll be ready to join you soon. I hope so!
