Was it a Failure or a Success in your opinion???

Hi I am in the beginning stages of preparing for the Lap Band Surgery. I was just wondering if over all, are you happy that you had the surgery, would you do it over again? Or are you someone that wishes you never had it done?

I just want to collect some data for myself as i continue on this Journey to a Better Me :wink2:

I'm 12 days post op and knew that I would regret doing it while I didn't feel good but now that I'm back to myself again, I can say without hesitation that I would absolutely, 100% do it again. I feel like it has given my life back to me.

I would do it again. The only thing is that you have to know there are people out there with fickle bands. I have one of them. I have had 20 fills in 2 years trying to find my sweet spot. I go from being too tight to too loose so it takes time. Just know that sometimes it is not easy.

Success, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not to goal yet, but where I'm at is a whole lot better than where I was. Plus without the band I'd still be gaining via the old dieting yo-yo routine.

So: no regrets here, at almost 3 yrs out.

And I do plan to eventually make it to goal. With how far I've come already, I know that it's possible.

Good luck making your decision!

I would probably go more drastic (like gastric bypass) if I had it all to do over again but to give you an idea of why, I have 200# to lose (at that point I will still be considered obese by insurance charts but will be very happy when I make it) . After 4 months I have lost a total of 50#, but find I can still eat enough to gain weight if I don't watch it. I am going for another fill in 2 weeks so perhaps I'll start losing again. My biggest weight loss came when I was on the liquid diet 2 weeks before and 1 week after and the 2 weeks of mushies after that.

Keep in mind the Lap band is only a tool -- how big a tool do you want/need

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
