period on surgery day?

Recommended Posts

Well now that my insurance came through and my date is set I've realized that I will most likely have my lovely period on the surgery day. I've heard that you shouldn't get your legs waxed etc. when you've got it because it makes you less tolerant of pain or something so will i be in more pain? i'm not really worried about that too much though. what i am worried about is the fact that i'll be having my period on the surgery table. i know what doctors/nurses/anesthesiologists are medical professionals and don't really care but it's still embarassing to think about. anyone else have to deal with this? do they let you wear tampons in surgery. i would assume not since they're not sterile but ya never know.

My period started the night before surgery. I didn't have a tampon in - I don't they they allow them. I had plenty of padding though. They really think nothing of it. I was able to use a tampon after surgery (once I was up and about).

I got my period on the day of surgery, 4 days early. They gave me the stretchy hospital underpants and one of those gigantic pads. In reality, It felt comforting to have the underpants on otherwise I would have been wide open down there....

If you are on the pill, just go directly to your next pack without taking the dummy pills, that should work. I've done this for years when I had something going on during that week, vacation or what have you... Hope this helps. Or if you're not, why not start them??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
