sara20 0 Posted July 29, 2008 HI! I'm Sara. I'm 57 and so excited to have found you'all . I will be banded on Sept. 10 by Dr. David Hall, In Lubbock TX. He does not require any special diet pre-op, but I'm wondering if anyone feels that I should still initiate one on my own to aid in any degree of pain or gas or anything else post-op? Also has anyone ever created a Protein chart made up of the foods that are easy for banded folks to eat?
zukagirl22 1 Posted July 29, 2008 Hi sara, i'm in San Antonio, TX, but was born in lubbock  Well for most doctors there is an automatic pre-op diet to help shrink the liver so when it's surgery time your stomach is more accesable (sp?). I would call and ask about it and if not i suppose if you wanted to just to be on the safe side you could. Usually it's an all liquid protien shake (low in surgar and varbs) for meals 2 week pre-op diet. But for sure call the doctors. Also about the food there should be a link on the left hand side of the main page that says food and nutrition that might have some high Protein info.
Leslee 0 Posted July 29, 2008 I start my pre-op diet on Friday and I have to be on liquids only, in this case slimfast optima, for 2 weeks. I agree with zukagirl22. Call your doctor to confirm that he/she does not require any dietery restrictions before surgery.
Brandy~ 2 Posted July 29, 2008 I didn't have a pre op diet.. I actually went to my favorite Italian place at 7pm the night before surgery  I turned out fine. The doc told me nothing after midnight. I would just follow what your doctor says. I really think those preop diets are just pre-torture. I lost 40 pounds in 3 months after surgery so I don't think the prediet affects the post weight.
