quesyion about fills need advice!!!

Recommended Posts

i have a question about fills. i found out today that my Dr. does not have a fluroscope. is that a bad thing? has anyone else had a good Dr. that has been able to hit your port first time with out any pain? my first fill is 8/11/08 and i am a lot nervous that she doesn't have a fluroscope, i kinda wish she did. any advice??? anyone else recently got their first fill? i just really don't want to get poked like 4 or 5 times trying to find the port, i figured it would be pretty simple but a friend of my who got banded a month before me says her Dr. uses a fluroscope and it's SO much easier. help??

My surgeon doesn't use a fluoro either. He's very good...just 1 quick poke and he's in.

My doc did not use a scope. I'll explain what he did to me, it might help you feel better. 1st he poked around on my tummy, then he had me do a mini crunch. (yep, like a sit up) then the inserted the needle. It did not hurt. It was a small stick, just like a regular injection. Once the needle was in, NO PAIN. It took less than 5 minutes total. He had told me before the fill that I might have to reschedule if he could not find it because I have extra adipose tissue. BUT, no trouble at all. Good luck. I was so nervous before mine. Hope this helps!

My surgeon does the fill under flouroscope. He is in and out in less than 1 minute and he gives me a small shot so I don't feel the "big needle". I also like that he is actually looking at my stomach and can see the position of the band. He makes me drink the nasty stuff and watches the Fluid go down before he pulls out. I have read about people getting stuck multiple times and being in all kinds of pain. No way!! I don't want anyone just blindly stabbing at me and not watching what's going on inside! I also think it's much easier for him to spot any problems I may be having right away. Maybe it will be okay for you, but if you hate it you might want to check out other fill doctors. Good luck!

My doc doesn't use fluro either...........he has me do a "mini-crunch" (half of a sit-up), then one poke (which i don't feel much of anything) and he's done.........I'm in and out in 5 min or less.

My doc doesn't use a flouro for my fills either unless he suspects a problem. His nurse is the one who does my fills, I love her she gets it perfectly the first try every time. I lay on my back with a pillow under my waist, arms over my head. She feels for my port and it's all over in less than 1 minute. So far I've not experienced any pain or problems.

My doc doesn't use floro either. Sprays my tummy with cold, cold, lydacaine, mini crunch, poke the needle 1st time and I feel nothing.

My doctor has never had to use fluro. He always gets me on 1, maybe 2 pricks. Make sure they use a numbing agent so it will not hurt as much. It will really help if you are nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
