Any other teachers being banded!?

Recommended Posts

My hubby and I are gettting banded next month. We are both teachers. I am concerned about the school year because schedules (especially lunch) are so rushed and hectic. Eating slowly is not easy during the day and I forsee myself eating shakes for Breakfast and lunch just so I won't throw up!! I'd love to connect with other teachers out there--maybe start a group.

I am a teacher, but haven't been banded yet. Hopefully, my surgery will be in Oct or Nov. I too have wondered the same thing. I look forward to seeing the responses.

Ah yes. I'm a student teacher, but am at the stage where I'm out on teaching rounds a LOT now, so working a good part of the academic school year. I take very easy things to eat because its always rushed. I eat well at home int he morning - I have two sittings at Breakfast, lol. First when I get up I'll get some Cereal and a coffee down, that travels around the house with me, while I'm showering, doing my hair, dressing the kids, etc. An hour or so later when I leave to do the school drop off of my kids and head on myself, I'll take some fruit and a piece of toast with me. That way if all I have for lunch is yogurt or some cheese and crackers, I've eaten well in the morning.then its an afternoon snack of something healthy which can be more leisurely. And dinner as normal.

personally I'd rather be fat than live on Protein shakes and bars, I dont consider them food or a viable option at all for me.

This large breakfast snack lunch doesnt fit my normal three meals a day routine, but I'll have to adapt when I'm finished studying and am working full time.

Mig - I am a school librarian. I was banded March 24th. So, I have every stage while in school from liquid to real food. I have 30 minutes for lunch. Sometimes I took a frozen meal like SmartOnes or Lean Cusine. Sometimes I would take leftovers. If I am lucky, I can microwave my meal a few minutes before my lunch time. Try things like cheese sticks wrapped with a piece of ham or take tuna or chicken salad.

I eat breakfast before I go. (I have a 40 minute ride) Around 8:30 I sneak in a yogurt, SF pudding, fruit or Protein shake (I like the ready made in a bottle sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast) I have always liked chocolate milk and it fills me up.

You'll find ways to eat - your a teacher, teachers are creative in their thinking.

Good Luck to both of you.

Hi I am a secretary at a high school. I plan on eating while I work and walk during my lunch time. We get a half hour for our lunch break. No date for surgery yet hope to have one soon.

I was banded on July 14th. We only have around 15 min. to eat by the time we get our students seated. I have a mini fridge in my room and I plan to keep some small (4oz) containers of chicken salad and sf pudding in it to eat every spare moment I may get. I also plan on bringing my New Whey Protein bullets to supplement meals.

I am also a teacher and will be banded in August just before going back to school. I figure I will keep it simple for lunches b/c I do not want to risk having a PB while at school. It would be quite embarrassing if I :puke:right if front of the class.

i had not actually thought about this aspect at all, i am a uni lecturer and by the time i get back to the office i will have about 20 mins to eat my lunch, unless i get pestered by students, which happens most days!! now ive read this, i think i am going to make something inthe morning before i leave, which will stop me having to prepare something at lunch time (i live where i work) and therefore will hopefully increase the time to 30 mins. i have been given my timetable last week and atleast my lunch is the same everyday as last semester it changed depending on the day. i am being banded in 2 days, so it will give me 6 week weeks before the new intake of students arrive.

but this thread has definately given me things to think about

I understand what you mean. I'm an Assistant Teacher, but the same concerns...half hour lunches. I am still in the very beginning of all this, I am trying to learn as much as possible beore my first meeting. There are 2 ladies where I work who have had surgery before, one is doing great ! She seems to do ok at lunch eating a small lunch slowly. She didn't have lap band done.

I'm a high school librarian, but taught for 9 years in the classroom. I was banded on 8-1-08 and started work yesterday. I'm doing the liquids still right now, but lunch time is our busiest time of the day, so I'm going to have to do easy, smooth things like yogurt, cheese, shakes, etc. Because like DWRD73 said, we don't want to "you know" in front of the kids. We'll do it, heck we've all survived NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, we'll survive this too. : )

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
