preop diet and slimfast

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there is anyone out there that used slimfast for their preop Protein Shake? I am 3 days away from my band:smile: and i have been using the slimfast optima shakes twice a day. My nutritionist had told me to use medifast or whey Protein Shakes from GNC but the slimfast is so much more convient. I know they have a bit more sugar then the other two shakes. I don't know if i should switch for the last couple of days prior to surgery. :) The closer it gets the more nervous i am getting. Sombody please get back to me. Thank you

I think the slimfast has about 11 or 15 grams of sugar. I better not use them anymore.

Thanks Betty, So you didn't have any problem with the size of your liver due to the higher suger contant in slimfast. I kinda enjoy the shakes and they really do keep you full for a good couple of hours.

Hi Healthy Sue,

I used Slim Fast Protein Shakes. I had to lose 10% of my

weight before surgery. I started drinking the shakes 3 times

a day and lost 30lbs in 6 weeks before my surgery.

I still drink a shake a day for the Protein I have lost 60lbs and

I was banded March 11,2008. Good Luck! I know you will

be successful.

Yes! My doctor recomended the LOW CARB slimfast. They said not to drink the regular kind because of all the sugar. Look for the LOW CARB, sometimes its harder to find. It is better and has more Protein than the HIGH PROTEIN SF. So remember LOW CARB. I like the chocolate. I put in insulated mug in the freezer, then I fill it will icecubes, pour in the SF and then add a little bit of cold Water to fill up the mug, shake it up and it tastes like chocolate milk to me. I tried thinning it with skim milk, but that doesn't taste as good as plain old water. It has been a lifesaver. Plus easer to find and cheaper than other stuff at GNC. I get a case of 15 at Sam's CLUB. Good Luck!:)

Go with the Slimfast LOW CARB, not the high Protein, or the optima. You need to stay off of the carbs so that your body starts burning the fat instead of just running off of ready-made carbs.

I seen where you were banded by Dr.K in Texarkana. How long did it take you working with their office to get the surgery? I have all of my paperwork and test done and I am just waiting on them to file my insurance. Are you happy with the surgery?

They are my staple meal. I have two daily and use the low carb version. You can get them on Amazon for a discounted price too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
