Hi September Samuris!!

I'm Sherri...32...married 7 years to John (will also be banded this fall!!)...mommy to JT, 4yo boy.

We live in Texas, just south of Dallas....I'm a SAHM.

I've never been thin...heck, I've never been average. I wore the "pretty plus" sizes at Sears when I was in elementary school!

I want to go back to school to be a home ec teacher...I want to be good at my job because I am talented, not because everyone thinks that fat girls must be good cooks!!

That's funny! I saw this saying once somewhere "Never Trust a Skinny Cook"!! I thought it was soo great...because I am a great cook, and thats going to be one of my biggest challenges with the band. But there's another one too that I heard..."Nothing tastes as Good as being Skinny Feels"!! lol

Hi, I am 57 and have 2 boys (aged 36 and 31). I have been with my DH for 26 years. I completely understand the plane seatbelt thoughts. I travel for my work alot. I got an extender one time, long ago, and kept it. I carry it in my computer bag and used it every trip. I was banded in Aug 2007 and lost 63 pounds. In March 2008 I had slippage and had to have the band removed. It is being replaced on 9/15. Woo-hoo, can't wait. But, the good news is, after 63 pounds, I don't have to use the extender anymore. So, there is hope for all of you what are looking forward to no extenders. The band does work and it is marvelous. I had no thoughts of not getting another one if the doctor and insurance approved. They did and I will be on the band wagon again.

srknepler I totally understand the Sears thing. I also have worn larger sizes since elementary school. Can't wait to get out of the Lane Bryant and Roaman's catelogs and get to normal stores.

So, tell us about the surgery, and what its like after...I Need Info!!

I'm 42, married 16 years with 2 beautiful girls (13 & 11). I can't wait to be able to help my girls with eating healthy and exercising with them so they do not have the same problems I had at their age. I had to laugh at the boat thing. Last time I tried to pull myself on to a boat after snorkeling was on our honeymoon. It was one of those rope ladders and I couldn't get up the damn thing. All the gentlemen on the boat ran over to one side to help me and in the process the dang boat almost tipped over. How's that for embarassing. I'll be happy for things like sitting down without my pants rolling down, talking and walking at the same time, being able to wear a skirt without worrying about keeping my legs together, just a few of the simple things skinny people take for granted. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
