Hey!

It's Melolo... I'm back I had my surgery on 8/4/08. My experience was pretty much like Brad's and the thing about it is they get you up and on your feet as soon as possible. There's not too much time for laying around and sleeping after surgery. I was given some liquid so that they could test the band it's so funny to see your insides on the monitor in motion. I was also given a popsicle and I walked around some more. Still some discomfort after a week I don't like anything around my stomach. Especially where the incision for the port is located. But other then that I'm fine. I probably weighed in at 334 pounds and the time of the surgery I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 324. Wow! So I will have my 1 week since surgery appt tomorrow. I wonder what the doctor will say about the weight loss.

Hi, my name is Steph. I'm 34 and live in Johnstown, PA. I've been working at a wonderful hospital for more than five years which then found me going back to school to learn how to work with computers. Now I have a year to go till I get my Associates Degree in Network Administration. Most days find me on our help desk resetting passwords and trouble-shooting printers. I have four kitty cats that I love dearly...but this past week after surgery they've been scaring me jumping all over the bed. I'm just waiting for one to mistake my stomach for the bed and it's going to be bad! LOL Classes start up again next week, and then I have a little side business doing craft shows. There are three of those coming up for me in the middle of September. The procrastinator that I am, I have nothing ready. So as you can see, I'm an over-achiever and don't seem to be satisfied unless I'm so busy I have no time for anything.

I'm very happy to have found you all! And happy that I've finally had surgery. I feel like my life can begin again...if that makes any sense.

:rolleyes::thumbup::biggrin::thumbup:

Oooo Steph, we have so much in common! I have four kitties and am pretty nervous about the "walk all over momma" possibilities. What kind of crafts do you do?

I love to play sport, I am VERY active. I excell in softball where I play first base and bat usual fourth. I also am very good at defender in field hockey. I still live with my family consisting of my mom, dad and younger sister. They are my strength through this whole process...

My name is Gina, I'm a nurse and a single mom of 3; ages 16, 14, and 7. I live in San Antonio. I am scheduled to be banded by Dr. Carcamo at the Nix on August 19. I first started looking into weight loss surgery in 2001. I first tried to get approved in 2005. I changed jobs in 2007 and restarted the process with a different insurance company. I met all requirements but was denied. The denial was finally over turned and I now have a date. I'm glad to be getting this done before school starts.

Hi ya Gina,

How did your surgery go? I'm scheduled w/ Dr. Carcamo for Monday 8/25. My pre-op apt is tomorrow. Any heads up on what to expect from pre-op and surgery? Hope everything went smoothly!

My surgery went fine. I was the fifth case of the day. I ended up staying overnight because I was allergic to the pain meds. The port incision site is the only place that hurts. It was burning a lot the first day. My abdomen is sore today like I did a bunch of sit ups. Please let me know how your experience is. I had it done at the Nix and everyone was very nice.

Hi - my name is Pam and I am getting banded on Aug 26 at Kaiser Richmond CA. I live in Sacramento and I'm a single mom to two boys - 14 and 11 - and one girl -turning 9 next week. I have struggled with my weight since about 3rd grade, but didn 't really start gaining until I started fertility treatments and through 3 pregnancies. I am excited and a little scared at the same time to get banded. I just found this website a couple of days ago and really like it. I started the process the first week of May and have lost 27 lbs so far. How do I put the ticker thing on the bottom of my messages?

MomCof3...

Welcome!

There was a thread last night about How to do the ticker. I got mine up (finally) but don't know if I could talk you through it, but I'll try.

You go to www.tickerfactory.com and follow the directions to set up your ticker. Then you go to "codes" or, "get code" I think it is (you'll see it)

You use the very first code and copy it in it's entirety.

Then go to "edit profile" (down the right of this screen) and "edit signature" (will be at the left of the screen) and PASTE that url (actually there are 2 but copy them all) into the big box. Then click on "preview signature" down at the bottom. The ticker will show up at the top of your screen. Edit it, add text etc...then click save.

I hope that works...good luck!

hahaha I typed it up a while ago because there were so many people wanting to know how and I figured it would be easier to direct them there than write it out when asked

Clever woman, Roheryn. And I like your quote from "Wicked", too. It's got the same sentiment as my "Listen to the mustn'ts" in my profile (credit to poet Shel Silverstein)

I'm Melissa and 25 years old. Married for 4 years to an EOD tech (Richard) in the Army, and we're stationed here at Fort Hood, Tx. We'll be getting out in the next few months and haven't decided on where we're going to plant our roots just yet. No kids - just a dog (Bocephus), and 2 cats (Jesse James & Diego) who think they are. :(

I can remember the first time I knew I was a fat kid, my grandmother took me to a TOPS meeting with her... after that, it was all down hill for a while. When I was 16-17 and working I started taking "Ripped Fuel" and went from a 24 to a 14 in a year. Went off of it and graudually went up - then got married and got "happy-married-fat". :banghead:

This past year me and my husband started LA Weight Loss - which was total BS - and it caused more harm than good.

After that I decided to research the lap band and in March I went to the first seminar and it snowballed from there. My surgery is set for August 27th - one month to the day after my 25th birthday - and I can't lie, I'm scared out of my mind. I cried again today to my husband about the whole "dying on the table" issue. *lol* I'm trying to go into this with an open mind and heart.

Melissa

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
