Hello..new to the club and lost!

Recommended Posts

Hi, My name is kathy and I just got banded on the 23rd of July. Right now I am still sore and learning how to eat and drink without hurting myself. Trying to get set up on here for company and answers and finding that harder to do than I thought. I am in what they call stage two diet here for the first 2 weeks, which is mushy foods. Not sure how you are to eat only 3 meals with so little going or staying in as its all close to liquid. Any help or guidance would be great.

Just keep in mind that this stage of the diet your doctor put you on is so your stomach can heal. My doctor said that it is very important for all that scar tissue to start to form so the band doesn't slip.

I ate/drank a lot of cream Soups. Also broth with Idahoan instant mashed potatoes mixed in them were REALLY good after so long on liquids. Hot cereals also aren't bad. Being sure you are getting enough protien also helps. I actually started pureeing things that I never would of thought of eating in a liquified form. I think the most shocking thing was a mexican casserole thing.... yep... sipped it through a straw. Now the thought about kills me but at the time I thought I was in heaven.

Restriction doesn't happen just from getting banded. It took me 5 mos after surgery and three fills until I felt "restriction".

You can make it!! Good Luck!!

I am eating cream of wheat and that is going pretty well. I am getting good Protein. They have this tubes called New Whey and they have 42 grams of protein in 3 oz size. Its a good one that is ok with the doctors. Much easier than shakes. More like a shot.LOl I am taking my time. Just feel more uncomfortable than I thought i would.

I also got banded on July 23rd! Today is the 28th and I feel pretty good. I still can not bend over and have some difficulty getting out of bed, but other than that, I feel pretty good.

I am on liquid still for three weeks before I start puree food. I am drinking chicken broth, Water, and Protein shakes. I got a book with all sorts of Protein recipes in it. I also am eating low carb yogurt, sugar free pudding and Jello.

I am having a hard time getting my protein in because I get full and then do not drink for a while.

I have lost 12 pounds since the 23rd. Good luck and I hope you get better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
