:kiss:Hi everyone, My journey begins this Thursday @ 2:30 in the afternoon. I will be banded that day. I have tons and tons of questions to ask my Doctor tomorrow at the pre op visit. My doctor is Dr. A Joe Cribbens. My son had the same surgery this last March and has lost 69 lbs. He is a new person. Dr. Cribbens is the greatest. I waited three months before Dr. Cribbens would even file insurance on me. After the initial approval everything has moved quickly. Now I am nervous. I know how my son ate and he did great. I just hope I can do the same. He is a great support for me. My only fear besides not being able to eat is that I won't be able to play tennis in two weeks. All I read in the posts is that you hurt after the surgery. Can anyone tell me what it feels like? Does the pain go away? I only have my son to go on but he is 19 years old and I am 57. There is a big difference between us. However, I do think very young and play a mean game of tennis. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Skinnydeb:wub::teeth_smile:

Hello and Welcome to LBT. It's really great that you have someone close to you that has had the surgery so you know what to expect.

The pain for me was pretty minimal. I was up cleaning house within a couple days. I was back to work within 5 days. The only time I noticed discomfort was trying to get up from a laying down position.

Hi SkinnyDeb,

I had my surgery July 10 at Baylor Plano and I did not hurt at all. I'm 56 years old. I was uncomfortable a couple of days due to gas but it was not bad at all. I went for my 2 week checkup Thursday and my Doctor released me to do anything I want to do so you should be able to play tennis. I don't even feel like I ever had surgery. Hope this helps.

Waynette

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
