leepizz 0 Posted July 27, 2008 I have hypothyroidism. I have been struggling with my weight since my 20's when I ended up with this diease. Every diet was a struggle. Since my surgery on 6/3 i have lost 20 lbs! I am very excited with the lost. I hope it will continue!

Melody2006 1 Posted July 28, 2008 I have this and asked my surgeon. He said if 1 year out he compared one person that had the band to another person who had it with the band one would loose on average 100 pounds, the other 80 pounds. I'm sure thats some sort of comparison estimate.
LadyHash 0 Posted July 28, 2008 Yes I am also hypo. Have been since they did iodine when I was young. Went from hyper to hypo and been heavy ever since. I just got banded, but it seems to me it can be slower but stillpossible. Also depends what your eating habits or hangups are. Mine seem to be about Portion Control, so seems to be dropping pretty quick. We will see what the months bring
kamicola 1 Posted July 28, 2008 Aren't you being treated for it with meds? Make sure if you are that your doctor that is treating you is a specialist in Thyroid disorders.... your TSH level should be lower than 2.0 and the other levels like your T4 and such need to be monitored often as well. The AMA has a normal range of .3-5.5, but you have and should be treated for a hypothyroidism if it is above 2.0. Also, maybe your med is not working efficiently for you either... maybe change to a natural thyroid like Amour Thyroid..... if your thyroid is tightly controlled and monitored, you shouldn't have too many issues... I am losing steading in the two months since surgery, but my thyroid is TIGHTLY controlled... helps when you go to a naturalpathic doctor with a specialty in thryoidism. I can't see how a doctor could tell you what the weight loss is of a person with or without a thyroid disorder.... unless he did a study and controlled the eating, medications, etc.... that seems unprofessional... if your thyroid is controlled properly, this shouldn't be an issue!
