The preop diet, from my understanding, is a precautionary measure. I have my surgery on tomorrow, and I slipped big time (not yesterday or today though). But, I will be at the hospital bright and early. So, my advice would be to get up, brush yourself off, and get back on track. Not sure why, but some doctors dont require a preop diet. Some who have surgery in Mexico are sent off form their "last meal" the evening before surgery. Best wishes!:)

I have never heard of a saline laxative; but you had better be careful. This is no time to get your electrolites out of balance. Everything is absorbed in the intestine. If you are using saline; you could potentially get too much saline and end up with Fluid overload. Please at least talk to a pharmacist before using these laxatives; if they contain sodium.

Hang in there Mike! This is exactly the kind of binge that your new "mechanical willpower" will be able to help you fight better. Don't worry about any effects on your pre-op condition. If you get back up tomorrow and get back on the wagon there shouldn't be any lasting effects. If you get the drive again, hang out here on the boards, or in one of the chat communities, to keep yourself distracted.

its so tempting isnt it, to just have that 'last meal' or last binge, but try and stay focused now you are on the pre op diet.

my issue is, because it is so boiling hot, i am eating loads of sugar free ice pops, they only contain 1 caloie and apparantly nothing else, but i still feel like i shouldn't be eating them. but its a toss up between feeling boiling and eating 1 calorie, which in my head, would take 1 calorie to eat it anyway. or am i just thinking like a fat person with that theory and thinking of excuses??

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
