The waiting game (how long have others waited?)

Recommended Posts

I finished my six months of PCP/diet history the end of June. My surgeon's office faxed all of my records for diet history, psych, and nutrition to CIGNA on Friday, July 18. They say I will have a wait anywhere from 7 to 30 days. I was told it was a good solid submission and they wouldn't of sent it if there were holes in it. They seem pretty sure of approval. Still waiting is the hardest part. I have a tentative date for surgery scheduled for August 25th. A month away. I hope to hear from my insurance soon. How long have others waited? Keeping my fingers crossed for approval soon!!!

I have Humana as well. I had to go through the 6mo weight loss study as well. My info was submitted on Tues 7/22 & I rcvd my approval on Thur 7/24 :). I haven't gotten a surgery date yet but am hoping it will be around mid to late August. When the surgeon insurance advocate submitted my paperwork she said for me to expect to wait about 10 business days. Good luck & I hope you get your approval soon,

I have bc bs. My info was mailed to them on July 2nd or 3rd. The review board received the info on July 15th and I was approved on July 22nd. Not bad considering that they lost some of my documentation in their mail room and I had to resubmit those particular items. Also I was told that it could take 4-6 weeks but it actually took about 2.5 weeks.

I'm in the same boat, everything has been turned into my doctor and the only thing I have left to get is the approval, I sometimes feel I chose the wrong center to go to. I have bcbsma and several co-workers had there surgeries approved within 2 weeks or less. I'm getting a little impatient knowing that my insurance company will cover the insurance and I'm playing a waiting game with the doctors office.

Your wait and the number of hoops you have to jump through depends on your insurance.

I have BCBS Louisiana group plan through my employer. They cover the surgery if necessary. I went to a seminar at the end of May, called the surgeons office on June 24th, approved June 26th, Preop July 3rd and surgery on the 14th. It was easy, but that was due to the person working my file in the drs office and the fact that I qualified. I definitely feel that my surgery was worth it. I am glad I didn't have to wait, because school starts here on AUG 4th!!!!!!!

Have CIGNA as well and getting banded tomorrow. The process was very smooth for me. After it was submitted, I received a phone call at work from a CIGNA RN about 3 weeks later who asked me questions, and at the end of the conversation she stated that she could tell that I was well prepared for the journey ahead of me and that I was approved! They will also call from time to time after the procedure to check on your progress (so she said).

I wanted to have the procedure over the summer too, but seems how I went to the seminar in January and found out my insurance requires 6 months diet history with your PCP, it has taken a long time to get here. I was hoping to get the surgery before school started. We go back to school August 11th and they have the surgery date set for August 25th. I will miss school for it, and my principal is very understanding and supportive. She fully believes my health comes first! So I am blessed for that!

I contacted CIGNA today. I guess my paperwork is in the predetermenation stage with pending in the computer. The insurance specialist for my surgeon says it is in the right spot. I continue to await their decision. It was so hard not to advocate to the customer service rep all the reason it needs to be approved. So I guess I will continue to wait. I am just so excited. I can't wait to be a healthy me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
