Tattoo over your scar?

Recommended Posts

I would really like to get a tattoo over my main incision one day. I have read that you should wait a year for complete healing.

Has anyone else gotten a tattoo over their lap band scar/s or a tattoo to symbolize this journey? If so what did you get??? :tt2:

I have tattoos over some of my old scars from other things and they definetly need to be healed good. If the tattooist goes too deep in a new scar it can cause the ink to bleed out and plus when the scar heals more it can make it looked deformed.

But yes you can do it.

I am not banded yet but I know from other scars. :tt2:

I'm assuming that it would not be a good idea to get a tattoo over your port area. When I had my twins my OB told me that if I had a tattoo on my back, the spinal becomes a problem because the needle carries some ink in with it. Not sure if this affects just the spinal column or any injection site??

I want to get more ink done when some of this weight is gone :)

dunno about needles and the ink i'd say it's possible. I know when i have gotten scabs on my tattoos from like shaving or something it causes them to lose some ink and I had to get touch ups so it's probably very possible.

I think that most people dont get the actual needle stuck into their port incision though the port is usually beside it right?

My port is right underneath my main incision :) I would love to cover it up too, but I plan to get a TT when the time comes and all that skin will be gone :mad2:

I got a tatoo before my lapband and my port is right next to it. My surgeon uses it as a guide to find my port every time,

Since Surgery, I said I was going to get another one and I did in May while I was in Vegas. I got the Chinese symbol for "Beautiful" on my back between my shoulder blades.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
