Weird Question for the Ladies...

Recommended Posts

Right there with you Sun! I suspected that a wax would maybe last me a week (if that!), so thank you for confirming before I waste close to $100. I get my eye brows waxed all the time and am already plucking strays within a couple days - so I can't even begin to imagine how quickly leg hair would come back. Guess I'll need to find some type of plan B. Thanks to all for your responses!

Chickie,

I answered why not in my post above yours. Because a wax does NOT last 3 weeks for someone with PCOS. It lasts barely a week and is pretty much a waste of time and money. The only real solution is to either have laser, take pills to stop hair growth or hopefully, have hormones go back into balance after getting down to normal weight.

A wax is a great suggestion for someone who doesn't have that much of a Hair growth problem and if you can get it to last for 3 weeks, thats excellent. Most women with PCOS however, are not so lucky - and the Original Post was about women with PCOS.

Sunwyse,

I have PCOS. Have had since puberty. A wax will last for 3 weeks. Always did for me anyway, and I am a hairy beast (paying for the ILP to prove it too)

So there is no point in explaining PCOS to me. Sadly I know all too well

And even if the wax lasted a week, it's still a hair free week. Beyond a week, most people don't have heaps of trouble bending, so the theory is still valid.

I like the "Veet" cream. I think it works really well. I don't use it all the time, but like for vacations or a special occasion and I want a really smooth appearance with out stuble the next day. Now they make a Veet that a gel that will stay on while your in the shower and come off when you physically start to take it off. Haven't tried that yet. Today I get a pedicure, and thank god the lady I go to I have gone to for years, because I can't bend down to put Water in the dogs' bowl let alone try and shave.

I have a ledge in my shower so that helps. If you don't have one you may want to get a plastic step for your shower. It really helps, especially after surgery.

I was going to say the same thing as Chickie, that even if the wax only lasts a week, it'll still get you basically over the operation. Its not a big surgery, honestly, I could have shaved my legs the next day, but even if you're not so lucky you'll surely be fine within a week to carry out personal grooming.

I didnt mean to insult anyone by suggesting it, I dont have PCOS and I'm not a very hairy person so of course my expectations of how long a wax should last may be different to yours. But short of a magic cure, what else can anyone suggest? Its probably the better option or you can just not worry about it and be hairy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
