Hey all, I just got banded on the 23rd. There was some trouble with the surgery and it took about 5hrs to finish. I stayed in the hospital over night and am home now. I have a 10cc band and it has 5cc in it at surgery. I cant drink more than about 1/2 of a cup of liquids at a time. very unconfortable after drinking. No shoulder pain from gas but just cant drink much. Tried a 1/3 of Jello and have pain. Should i be this restricted this soon? My dr. said I would be really swelled from the surgery, is that why I cant drink anything? I am getting in fluids, small amounts at a time. I am burping alot and passing gas alot. This morning I could only get two popsycles down. Is this normal?

wow they put 5cc in no wonder you can't eat.. i also have a 10cc band and was really restricted with no fill. It is completely normal for you to be so restricted between swelling and fill. After surgery I took a shot glass and made sure I was drinking a shot glass full of liquid every 15 minutes to stay hydrated. I was banded on june 20 and feel so great! I still have some gas but not nearly as much as I did at the beginning. Congrats on your lapband! allie~

I also had complicatons because my liver was too big. I ended up having an "open" surgery after my stomach was accidently perferated and they had to open me up to fix the hole in my stomach. I was stapled from just below my breast bone, to the top of my belly button. I also had to stay over night. I could only eat ice chips the first day, and only had two surgar free popcicles the first and second day. I think most of it in the begining is swelling. I don't have any fill yet, and 10 days post op I'm feeling quite hungry again. As far as the gas it is normal, walk as much as you can, that really helps alot. However, I didn't feel any pain slowly eating jello. At this point you don't want any restriction so you can heal. I think I would give the doctor a call though. Better safe than sorry. Good luck, and keep us updated.

I was banded on July 15th and the first 5 or 6 days were miserable for me. I had terrible gas pains, could NOT burp at all and had really strange chest pain. My doctor told me to drink 4 oz. of liquids every hour I was awake, but I never got that much down. For one thing I didn't want it and second I was so paranoid about throwing up that I never pushed anything. You don't realize how much swelling there really is until it is gone! Finally day 7 or 8 I felt like a human being again and FINALLY had some energy do get up and do something. yes, in the beginning I questioned whether or not this was the right thing to do but I now know that it was.

Just try to stay hydrated and remember that it does get better!!

I gotta get one of those ticker things...

Bless your heart I do think it's the norm after surgery to be having those issues. It is different for everyone but I have read many times here the same thing you are going through. Good-Luck to you!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that there were problems with your surgery and that it took so long am glad you are okay.

I would say what you are feeling at this point is very normal. It will get better, believe me.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I agree with so much of what you are all saying. I was banded 4 days ago. I did screw up last night and did a 1 mile walk. Probably not a great idea, especially be myself. I got ringing in my ears and my finger tips went numb.taking it easier today.

I am doing good with liquids, gas gets easier each day. I find sitting to be the toughest.

I gotta stay off the scales as suggested the sales are showing a 13 lbs loss. Yipee but I hope it doesn't come back when I start stage2 (mushies)

Thanks and skinny days ahead to us all!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
