I was approved but im losing my ins. in a month???

Recommended Posts

OK i am so happy i was finally approved and my surgery is this Thurs. but my insurance will run out at the end of August :crying: Now i know with people who self pay fills are usually covered for like a year. Is that the same with those who have insurance. Im going to call the hospital admin to find out. I will hate to have the surgery and then not be able to afford the fills.

anyone in a similar situation :confused2:

I would check with your insurance, too.

My fills are covered, with the exception of my office visit co-pay required by the insurance.

Is there a fill-center near you? I know that fills are really less expensive at those centers. You can go on-line to research for the closest one to you @www.fillcentersusa.com. Hope this helps.

I believe that with most docs, if you pay using your insurance, they pretty much charge for everything that comes up. Is there a way for you to cobra your insurance until everything falls into place for you? It can be expensive, but it might be a better alternative. I just left a job and it's about $300 a month to cobra my insurance for upto 18 months.

Good luck!

Thanks for your advise guys...the thing is I have a medicaid type insurance so i dont think there is a cobra possibility. I am hoping that since my insurance covered the surgery the hospital will just used that coverage to cover upcoming fills. I am having surgery in NYC at NYU and i think fills there are expensive

Hi,

My doctors office recently went out of network with my insurance. I was able to get Gap Exception where the doctors office provided me codes for treatment including fills.

You may call your insurance and doctors office to see if they have anything like that.

Good luck,

Kathy

What will you be doing for insurance after this one is gone? Personally, I think that having the band inside you without having the security of insurance is scary, so I hope you have plans to get it. Even once you have the surgery, there could be complications down the road. We all pray there won't be, but that's one of the things insurance is for, is the unknowns. I hope this all works out well for you. Good luck.

i live in new york also. perhaps you can contact medicaid and explain that you are having lap band surgery that will require follow up care. ask if they can extend your medicaid.

I dont think my insurance will be extended...i have a job now and i make too much ( but my job doent offer medical insurance) I am planning on purchasing insurance (im thinking GHI) shortly after my insurance ends. I am hoping there isnt a gap. I know its kinda of a gamble to get this procedure now but i really wanted to be banded and my insurance approved in 48 hours :)

Thanks for your support and advise

go for it! a new job, and new shape, you're headed in the right direction. talk to your doctor at nyu about your money concerns for the fills. he may arrange something for you, like include the first couple of fills with the price of the surgery. my doctors at montifiore are so dedicated and wonderful to their patients, i'm sure the ones at nyu are also.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
