My preggo hormones almost got the best of me!

Recommended Posts

I was at lunch with a group of coworkers last week when I overheard the two men sitting next to me talking about weight loss surgery. Now my surgery is no secret at work, so of course, this pricked up my ears. They were going on and on about how WLS should be a last resort and only for the super-obese and only if there is some medical reason blah blah blah. All this right next to me where of course I can hear. Some of what they said kinda hurt my feelings even. I was just seething, and I really wanted to say something, but I didn't. I was afraid I'd go all pregnant hormonal rage on them.

So, hopefully this won't happen again, but who knows? Would you all have said something?

Nah, get back at them by showing them how good it was for you.

It's funny you say that... I recently found out that my aunt told my mom that the lapband doesn't work, which I felt was a direct criticism of me and my progress. The first thing I said was, OH just wait until after I give birth -- then I'll really show her what the band can do! I guess I just need to have the same attitude with those work guys.

People are opinionated about everything. And obviously those guys haven't dealt with weight issues their whole lives or they would be more sympathetic to our plight!

As for your family....my family would probably warn anyone they met about the problems with the band. I've had a VERY difficult journey and all of them want me to get it removed. But now that I'm through what I hope is the worst of the challenges, I am still glad I made the decision. Even though I'm not at my goal weight, I know I would never be in Onederland without it and would probably be well on my way up the scale!

Besides how lucky are we that we have a tool to help us lose the baby weight!

I wouldn't bother saying anything if you don't know them and they don't know you. I doubt saying anything after overhearing a conversation would cause them to change their minds. I can understand how you felt and I am sure my ears would have perked up just the same.

That's just it. We know each other very well. One guy I work with almost every day, the other I only see a few times a month, but still. Both know all about my surgery, etc. That's why it bothered me so much. I can understand that, while being aware of my situation, they still may not agree. But did they really need to bash it so bad when they are literally sitting right next to me? I guess I was just really surprised because the one guy is usually very sensitive to others. Maybe he just got caught up in the conversation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
