Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is my first thread, I have been reading other threads for a while now. I was wondering how everyone coped with the pre-op diet. I have been on it now for 3 days, and I have been feeling terrible. I hav Headaches and very bad gastric I was wondering if this is normal? My op date is the 11 August and I cant wait.

Hi Tessj, welcome to the forum.

I haven't started the pre-op diet yet, but I have been on Meal Replacement diets before, including Optifast for 5 weeks. What you are going through is perfectly normal. Your system is basically cleaning itself out from all the stuff left from how you used to eat. They are all symptoms of detox.

It takes about 3 days so you should start feeling better any day now. Stick with it, it will be worth it very soon.

Good luck with the op.

Thanks it is great to know it is all normal. I thought it might be a cleansing thing. I can't wait for surgery now only 16 days to go. I have struggled with my weight for so long now I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I had the most awful headaches for 3 or four days, just like you did, but I'm now about 2 weeks into my pre-op diet and am coping with it much better. I only replace 2 of 3 meals with Optifast, but am finding myself eating less during my 'normal' meal at lunch. And despite the fact that I'm far less hungry than that first week on the diet, I'm still losing weight. So don't despair, it does start to get easier from here.

I kept telling myself that it was only a short time frame of inconvenience comapred to the rest of my life feeling and looking fantastic later. I must admit knowing that I only had to drink the optiyuk for 2 weeks helped I would have caved day 1 if I was trying to use it as a weight loss tool.

Good luck its not as hard as you think and the pay off is huge.

Thanks for all the support. Only 14 days now till bandday. I think optiyuk is a better name for it. 28 more times I have to drink it. I am feeling much better today just a slight headache and tummy problem under control.I have not told very many people about the operation, it is something I need to keep to myself at the moment. Only sister and of course husband. Again thanks for the support and I look forward to hearing from all of you in the future.:)

Tess my date is 19th august, and to be honest i am finding it very difficult with the diet, day 3 i nearly fainted in the medicare office, also had the green apple splatters, and just felt wretched, i am also finding that i feel at times anxious, depressed, all over the place emotionally which is surprising me, i thought i would be just ecstatic to be finally doing this, maybe my sis is right, i obviously have a few issues, and am medicating with food, and now i cant use that i have to deal with it..........any way, i refuse to fat any longer, and i am doing this, so stick with it, and i think all this is normal, i also find i feel a little light headed at times, and it is kind of like i am on the outside looking in. good luck with you date, regards .

Dr Copp is a keeper. In the 3.5 years I have been seeing him, I can't say I have ever had a bad visit. And the girls at the Ipswich office are awesome too.

Tess, I had all the same things. I'm on the post op now and it's a lot easier to me, I guess because it's been so long since i've had food. just keep telling yourself it's worth it. good luck.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
