Anxious and excited!!

Recommended Posts

Today I finished all the requirements needed to begin the insurance approval process. I have submitted everything to my surgeon and should know in about 10 days whether I am approved or not! I have Cigna HMO and have heard good and bad things regarding approval for surgery. Now that surgery is getting closer, I am nervous about it and excited at the same time. Has anyone else felt this way??? I want to become healthier but am nervous about the procedure, the way my food habits will change, etc.

Hi Angela,

I do the very same thing. I have to wait about 2 weeks to find out if my insurance will approve me or not. We all get nervous about having to do something so drastic. Surgery is a very scary thing and then the thought of eating one way one day and then waking up the next and having to totally change everything. YES!!! It is very daunting. However, we all know, or at least I do, that I cannot do this alone anymore. Strangely, I have always been an advocate of diet and exercise getting you the results you want, because I lost a lot of weight in 2000 before getting pregnant and now I am over 100 pounds larger than I was then, BUT, if you have an addiction to food, such as I, then sometimes we need a little extra help. This IS okay. I think the hardest thing for me and what I am most anxious about is the fact that I will no longer be able to eat AND drink at the same time. I am the type of person who either has to have tea or Water when eating, and believe it or not this is what I am nervous about. I am so ready to make changes though and FINALLY be thin. I have NEVER been thin from the age of 6 up I have had a weight problem and was always told, "You are so pretty, imagine how you would look if you lost all your weight." And now, it's not even about being sexy or attractive anymore. It's knowing that after I do this, I will be around to see my 6-year-old grow up and know that he will never be ashamed of me for being the biggest mom or have to defend me if his friends say something about how big his mom is. And knowing that I will be healthy.

lol sorry for getting off topic, but I guess I just wanted to say, you are perfectly normal for having these thoughts and for being nervous. Just remember there are so many that have had and will have this procedure and we are all here for one another. :crying:

Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
