New here, in need of Pre-Op diet HELP!!

Recommended Posts

I agree...the bullets rock! Just remember that while you are pre-op, there's no point in drinking all of it in one sitting. Your body can only absorb about 25g of Protein at a time, so split it into two different sittings.

Now once you are post-op, you won't be able to get it all down in one sitting...so this won't be a problem :wink2:

Lanakila, I've only tried the fruit punch. Have you tried the blue one? I wondered if it tastes as good as the other one.

fruit Punch all the way! I'm not a fan of orange-flavored stuff, and the market only has those two. I'll have to head out to a GNC or somewhere that has the blue ones and give it a try before I buy any online. If you get to a blue one first...please tell!

My husband (who is a total beanpole) has been doing the all liquid diet with me in solidarity. He just made the most delicious shake for me --it tastes like brownies and was crazy simple.

Ghiardelli Brownie shake

1 c. Skim Milk

1 scoop powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury vanilla Protein powder

1 tbsp Ghiarardelli Unsweetened Cocoa

4 ice cube

Carbs: 20 grams

Protein: 29 grams

Judie,

If you get in a pinch and simply cannot find something that works for you, Slimfast has a low-carb shake that is "legal." The chocolate is much more tolerable than the powders I've tried. You might also want to get a few fruitier powders, like the nectar stuff, and mix it in with crystal light. I've found that to work better than a shake too. Make sure you invest in a good shaker bottle! I have a Blender Bottle (brand) and it's super!

You can buy just samples of things at www.vitalady.com. The samples might seem a more expensive way to go, but it's worth it to not spend a slew of money on an entire tub of something that you end up hating! I really enjoyed the ProBlend 55 chocolate in skim milk, but not so much the vanilla. I've discovered that pretty much all vanillas for me have to be "hidden" in something like oats or applesauce.

Good luck!

When is your surgery date and ticker? I have seen you post alot, have you already had surgery?

My Sx date is the 28th :) I'm so far off that I haven't really gotten jazzed up enough to put a ticker on. I'm not even doing pre-op yet, so I'm just living vicariously through all of you band buddies!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
