Hello....You can call me Tee.Ihad my banding done 4/26/05 and within just one week of the surgery I lost 13lbs. It is now a month post-op and I have not lost any more weight. I can eat food with no problem. I don't want to be seen as a failure so I am starting back old habbits.(e.g. not eating, skipping meals)I am so afraid to return to my Dr.for fear that he may be disappointed in me. Please help me and tell me if this is normal or am I headed for total failure?

Me too. I lost 15 pounds in 12 days after surgery on April 8th. Nothing since. Problem is, until very recently, I have had restriction! Now it seems everything is going down.

Yes, we are doing something wrong Tee. Okay, there is a website...lemme find it and I'll edit my post...back in a sec...

okay, this tells you how to tell if you need a fill. See you there!

Hi Tee,

I just went thru the same feelings about disappointing my doctor with little weight loss.....

Don't worry about it--!! He is there to support you and advise you--and he will. I was so afraid to go back that I didn't for 3 months and it put my further behind than if I had just made an appointment and gone to talk to him. He was great. We both acknowledged the problem and got on with the plan.

Make an appointment asap. You will feel better just talking to him (not to mention getting a fill if you need one!)

Good luck and we are all here if you get "stuck".

Kimberly

Tee, Have you had a fill yet?

If not this is why you may not be losing, the first 6 weeks post op are mainly for healing only any weight loss during this time is a bonus.Did your doctor not tell you this? If you have no fill it is quite normal to be able to eat anything without restriction, with no fill you have no restriction. The band was designed to be filled to work at it's best capacity. So if no fill it is no woner you are not losing, hang in there and do not fret, once you start getting your fills you will undertand what restriction really is and will lose weight. You are NOT headed for total failure. :(

Shell is so right. I even remeber when I had my first fill that Dr. M was so impressed I had lost any weight (I was so "wide open") in our 6 week healing phase!. They had fixed a hiatal hernia and had stiched the band a little different so there was no restriction!

I hope a fill will work- but I used my time to practice all the good habits (I have been forgeting lately) and to mourn diet coke!

Good luck YOu ar enot headed for failure (My mother in law lost so much her first 6 weeks almost 25 lbs- and I lost a big whopping 15 those in first 2 weeks) now look at me- I am a steady and fast looser and she is on the slow end!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
