I need motivation!

Recommended Posts

I started off running, and now my motivation and self control have taken a serious dive! Banded 9/7 I haven't lost any real weight in months(fluctuating 2-4 lbs) and have fallen back into my bad habits. How do I get motivated again? and get a grip when I am constantly surrounded by bad food choices (call center environment).:) I need serious help here! Worst part is, I am my own enemy.

I do have a support group, but do to famliy illness and issues I haven't been able to go. I even know another lady at work who had the same surgery after me and trust me, she is unmotivated. Every time I speak to her she is negative.

Hi Bayougirl,

If you want, we can be "lapband pen pals/motivators". I too, have fallen off the wagon, so to speak lately. I was banded a year ago and lost close to 50 pounds, but my band was too tight and I started throwing up EVERYTHING I ate. I was miserable. I had my band partially, but substantially unfilled about a month ago, and I've gained close to 10 pounds in a month....I am miserable. I have no restriction, no willpower, after being able to eat so many of the things I haven't been able to eat in the last year...I'm just going crazy.

I'm going to try to get back on track starting tomorrow and would love it if we could e-mail our progress back and forth to each other if you are interested.

Let me know. You can e-mail me at cparisat29@aol.com if you'd like. Good luck to you, and I hope we are able to get back on track. I DON"T WANT TO GO BACK to how I was before. I feel so much better at a healthier weight.

I was banded January 10 and lost 30 pounds in the first 2 months. Since then I have been up and down the same 2 - 4 pounds and have had 2 fills. After the last one I notice more restriction on some things, but on others...not so much. I live and work a distance from where I was banded so I haven't gone to support groups. I wanted this so bad and now I am disappointing myself. I can't seem to get excercise and diet going right all at the same time.

Don't give up, can we find some support for backsliding through the forum?

Dancelady,

I'm right there with you. I am struggling with the same 5#, up and down. I was banded on 4/22/08 and have only lost about 15# since surgery. I too, can't seem to get exercise and/or diet going right at all. I've only had one fill and when I went back for my second one, the doc said that becuase I was up 3# since my last visit with him, that I must be cheating too much and won't do one until I get back down below where I was at my last visit with him. I am hungry most of the time and have no problems eating any types of food. I keep trying, but those stubborn 5# won't leave long enough for me to call for a fill appt.

Gail

Wow. I feel the same way you do. I was banded on 1/15 and have lost 30lbs. I feel it is going so slow!!!! I need to get the exercise thing down too. I just went to my dr. and only lost 4lbs in two months!!! I have been beating myself up so bad since yesterday. I feel like a big failure. I am so stressed out over my slow weight loss that I think I am stress eating. Does that make sense?

I have started to keep a food journal again. I'm not eating a lot, but I sure do drink coffee! Actually some days I am so hungry that I can eat all day, and other days nothing is good.

Someone told me brush my teeth more frequently on the hunger days because the taste of toothpaste makes all food taste bad.

Tomorrow I go in to weigh and see how bad I really have been!

Right there with you to the point that I feel like throwing in the towel because I don't know what to do.

Gail :)

Gail,

I think that is awful that your dr. won't fill you because you gained a little. I would think that is a sign that you need more restriction!! Can you find another dr. to do your fill?

He is the only one in my area that does the bariatric surgeries and is covered on my insurance plan. I think it all stems down to he was adament on me getting the bypass and when I told him that that was too evasive for me, he really wasn't interested that much.

Motivation is definitely needed. I know that food is amazin, but remember if not done correctly it is your enemy. I HAVE MOTIVATION FOR YOU.

How about not wanting to get fat again, not wanting to feel heavy, not being out of breath whenever you walk up the stairs, feeling like crap after eating a whole load. How about the idea of maybe not living long enough to see you kids grow up and have kids of their own, how about spening the thousands you do for lap band just to thow it all out the window. You need to breathe and think before you do anything. Self control is an art that must be practiced not someting that comes naturally trust me I know. So fight on, wether your banded or not eating right is hard for a lot of people. I HOPE THIS HELPS

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
