Hi all....

I am still at the beginning of the process...however I am wondering if wine is allowed post-op? I work 2nd shift as a nurse and enjoy a glass when I get home while checking email, or watching tv....is this a soon to be "no-no"? Thanks...

As far as fluids to avoid post op, make sure you stay away from anything carbonated and make sure you are not drinking within an hour of eating. Because of the empty calories, alcohol is not recommended. However, we all have to live and an occasional glass of wine is fine for most people. Perhaps you could find a substitute to help as you wind down from work...maybe try a smoothie or something hot?

Take care,

Lynn

Well, you always have to account for calories in one way or another but there's a lot worse habits you can have than a glass of wine at night.

Red wine particularly is very heart healthy, and white has benefits too. As long as you dont judge an enormous fish bowl wine glass as a standard drink!

There has also been studies done in Australia that show that moderate wine drinkers lose weight better than non drinkers.

I like a glass of wine at night myself, I have one probably five nights out of seven. It never hurt my weightloss.

I agree with Jachut. Wine can be good for your heart. Just don't overdo it!! My surgeon allows a glass of wine. "A" glass of wine. Not the whole bottle. The alcohol will affect you a little differently now that you're banded. I'm not sure why, but you'll be a cheap date. It goes straight to your head if you drink to much. One glass does me just fine these days.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
