2 Questions: Weight Limit and Location

Recommended Posts

Is there a maximum you can be overweight to qualify for the surgery? I'm seeing some people saying they're losing weight so they can have the surgery and that seems very odd.

Anyone in Arizona had or having a LapBand done and if so, where, advice?

I've been yo-yo dieting for almost 20 years now. I've tried several WL programs, both medicated and non. Had the most success with WW's but it never stays off and the last few times I lose and gain the same 40#'s 3 or 4 times. I am ready to take harsher measures! One of my sister-in-laws has had the LapBand for 3 or 4 years and is doing REALLY well with it. I think it might be for me too!

My mother had her first heart attack at 48 and died at 59. I soooo dont want that to be me.

Thanks for reading!

7_5_142.gifmost Dr.s require that you loose weight before the surgery to shrink your liver. It makes doing the surgury easier. Good luck

Yeah, I think most people who talk about having to lose weight before hand is for the liver-shrinkage issue. Not necessarily because they're too big!

My surgeon has done surgery on patients 500+ lbs. I'm not sure if there's a max weight or not.

Although I am still going thru the steps for banding, I have already began my life change. My doctor requires that I do a 4 week low carb diet before I have the surgery to shrink my liver. I have also began working out. I would like to show that I am willing to do whatever it takes to make that change. I hope that this info helps you. Good luck in your journey. Page

I was actually asked to lose some weight so he has more room to successfully move around and place the band correctly. Nothing was mentioned to me about my liver.

So I am not really sure than.

Sorry

The Phoenix area has a few surgeons. Depending on if you are going insurance or self pay. Dr Simpson is very well known. I used Dr Fang out of St Lukes/Banner Good Sam. The Weight Loss Insituite out of Tempe has 2 surgeons. Scottsdale has Dr Blackstone. Most don't have a set weight just that you are above 35BMI. Most all these doctors have seminars that you can attend.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
