How much are you eating one week post-op??

Recommended Posts

I am a die hard Weight watchers points person. So in order to monitor my intake (for both too little food and Protein and too much food and carbs) I am using my points calc. set on the lowest points possible -- for someone weighing less than 150 lbs, choosing nutritious Soups and Protein Drinks and I barely get in 15 points a day. (I don't ever use those 35 flex points 'cause I am stuffed/satisfied every day)

I have lost 26 total! (18 before surgery and 8 more in 1 week!!):)

I love WW's Points system too! I always had the most success with WW but had a hard time maintaining because I would get so hungry.

On my full liquid stage my DR gave me a diet plan and im only on 350 calories a day... My dr might be more strict tho cuz my liquid days i was not allowed unlimitied liquid either... i was on a 59 calories a day...

I have a couple of questions: Where did you get the July 08 Butterflies banner? I'd like to have one, too.

I'm just shocked that you had WLS so soon after giving birth and the doc restricted you to such low cal. How are you able to function with the surgery and the newborn on so little nutrients?

I'm on week two. My list is: Vegatables and fruits, mashed of pureed. Other soft foods like oatmeal and other Cereal products )grains), cream of wheat. Cottage cheese, creamy Soups, sugar free pudding.

I couldn't face anything "sweet" today. Not a big pudding fan either. So I had a little roasted red pepper Hummus, and Guacomole. It was WONDERFUL! I had it about 12:30pm and I'm still satisfied.

I also created what I call beef strogonoff Soup. It's nothing more that cream of mushroom and beef broth. I used an immersion blended just to make sure the mushrooms were pureed.< /p>

Yum! Your beef strogonoff soup sound wonderful. I'll be trying it next week when I'm at that stage.

If I have an 8oz Protein Shake it takes me 2 hours to drink it. I feel over stuffed. I had to drop it to 4 oz. Before I was getting enough Protein in and not enough Water (thats including the milk in my shakes) now I'm getting my water in and not enough protein. I just cant stand that over full feeling I get. Its so uncomfortable! I'm going to look for a higher protein power maybe that will help.

I am 6 days post op.

GNC sells New Whey liquid. I buy the 42g ones. It is only 3 oz of liquid, so if you drink that you are almost done for the day. They have a tart taste, but since it is only 3 oz. it is easy to drink. Some people also mix it with sugar free punch. You may want to give it a try! Good Luck!

try Protein Shakes, those will help with the hunger. I was allowed yogurt and l/f cottage cheese (one 4 oz at a time) post surg and that helped also. The first couple of days due to the swelling that was enough, but then I found I could eat up to 1/2 a cup 3 x a day. The Protein shakes really helped curb that hungry feeling. And while I know post op is for healing, I noticed if I drink the Protein Shake then I would loose weight and if I didn't then I stayed steady and it took longer to loose even a pound.

I wanted to get my WLS done on my maternity leave... they only required i was 6 week out... my c-section was healing nice and fast! I lost all the weight i gained with the baby (30pnds) I was 100 pnds over weight prior to pregnancy and thats why they were ok with doing the WLS... I am not doing well on such little calories... my milk supply dried up completely!! Which i didnt expect to happen.... I am worried about going back to work next week... i feel very weak and sooooo grouchy!!

MyMeshelle....I am an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. I do not like to bash anyone in the medical industry however you should not for any reason reduce your calories below 1800 if you are breast feeding because you burn about 500 extra calories a day nursing alone. If you are not breast feeding you can keep your calories safely between 1000-1200 and still lose weight. You just had a baby and it takes several months to get your hormones back in check and to heal.

I have my calories between 1000-1200 and I have lost 7 lbs in the first week after my lap band surgery and my daily caloric intake includes 30% carbs (whole wheat and grains) and 60-80g Protein. You will get your energy back in two days if you increase your caloric intake. Yes, you will lose weight quickly in the beginning with 350 calories a day but after 4-8 weeks your body will lower its metabolism so it will burn less and ration the very little calories you are taking in thus you your weight loss will slow drastically and it will take your body many month after you increase your food intake to raise your metabolism again to burn fat.

Please increase your calories, you are a new mother and you probably do not get much sleep and your calories are dangerously low. You are "burning the candle at both ends". Trust me, you will lose weight with 1200< daily if you keep the carbs below 30% and your protein is at 60-80g. Good luck, I am worried about you.

My sentiments exactly. I am testing things out to see if this would work for me and so far it is! I dunno if I got a small band or something but I have had restriction since day 1. So with that satiation trigger happening and I get really blah barfy feeling if I attempt to over do it. This combo WW and LB is doing great for me. I am down 29lbs since my last post:thumbup:

(I know it will slow down but it sure is fun while it lasts!!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
