Hello everyone. I was banded on Monday 7/21. When I woke up I had this awful pressure on my chest. When I tried to walk it went to my neck and was hard to breathe. It is a little better now after 2 1/2 days. I was so sick I could not drink cause it made me gag and get the sweats. I did much better today I got down 2 Protein Shakes and 8ozs of propel Water. I am also sleeping all the time. I am glad I did this and hoping it gets better as time goes by.

It does get better I'm 27 days out. I made sure I got up and walked around that help alleviate that pain, it would hurt breathing in, and I had terrible gas that I could feel in my chest. After the 2nd day I was good. Remember to try to walk around, and take it easy.

I had the same thing after my surgery. I couldn't take a deep breath without my chest hurting. I called my surgeon and suggested I go to the ER. I did (just to be safe) and they did an EKG, blood work, and ct scan of my lungs. They finally said it was probably gas and heartburn. I am feeling much better and it has been 7 days.

Thanks for the info. I am still having some problems. I still can't drink as much as the want me to. It was a real bad night for me. When I drink I get real full and than if I move to fast that's the end. I start to gag and get the sweats and it didn't go away till the morning. Almost called the doctor but finally fell asleep. I am better now but I think I will chew on ice chips for awhile.

Hi Jsadek54 -

I was banded on Monday too. The first three days were awful. I still have the gas pain and tightness in my chest, but I'm told that's normal. I'm trying to walk, get plenty of rest and drink Clear liquids slowly. Every day is getting better. Hope you feel better soon.

I was banded on tuesday so it is great to see how the rest of you are doing. Gas pain is still tough. I get up and walk but get tired quickly. I can't get down Protein yet. Just Water. Does that sound ok?

Hello everyone, I finally can drink normal again. I am feeling dizzy but I think I am not getting enough Protein. I will call Dr. tomorrow. Also my throat and ears are bothering me. I am going to start and try and drink more protein today. I drank 60mg so I will try 80 to 100 a day and see if that helps. I am just so HAPPY I can drink. LOL:thumbup:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
