Surgery on Sept. 24th

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!!

I'm Michelle and I am getting banded on Sept. 24th. Woo-hoo!! I live in Vancouver, WA with my husband Sean and 3 year old daughter Agnes. I am getting banded in Denver by Dr. Kirschenbaum. The silly thing is I just moved from Denver to the Pacific NW in Dec. Had I only know about him before.

I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Michelle

Thanks! Congrats to you too!! I think September is going to be a brilliant month!!

Are you nervous or are you ready to get it over with? It took me so long to get to this point but I am starting to get really nervous about the surgery.

Hi Michelle,

I'm getting banded by Dr. Kirschenbaum on Sept. 25th. I'm making the trip from SE Iowa.

I am so excited - it seems like Sept's never going to get here!

Good luck!

Cindy

So then do you just drink loads of Water the rest of the day? My pre-op diet is suppose to start on Sept. 10th. Absolutely no carbs of any kind. I am going to start this Monday. i kind of want to get into the swing of things so it isn't so hard come Sept.

I am doing two protien drinks made with 8 ounces of FAT FREE milk. Then I get a reasonable dinner. I am doing okay, mostly. I have 4 more days and I feel like throwing up so I am not having problems with the food. I am getting very nervous. Finding a protien powder that didn't suck was pure luck. I bought one from costco, and one from Trader Joe. The Trader Joe tasted like SAW DUST. I couldn't get it down. The costco one tastes good. Is 27 grams of protien good, plus the milk of course. The Nutritionist told me to use Milk.

Oh I did find something I liked, sugar free popsicles. But I tell you, I HATE broth. Can we live off of sugar free popsicles and juice???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
