just1more 0 Posted July 23, 2008 to prevent blood clots. Well I was told to wear them every day for two weeks. Its been three days and they are cutting into my legs and rubbing my skin off. Did anyone wear these and for how long? thoughts on preventing the rubbing? Tina
jills_adopting 0 Posted July 23, 2008 I didn't have them. I didn't even have the massaging things on my legs during recovery.
skinipete 0 Posted July 23, 2008 These are for circulation, right? OK, I'm not a Dr or anything even CLOSE to it, BUT call them and ask them why you have them (I didn't wear them). If it's for circulation, ask how much you'd have to walk a day to NOT have to wear them, then do it. You have to start NOW.
Northwest_Nance 0 Posted July 24, 2008 I didn't have to wear them, but if I were you I think I'd check with my doctor. There was a post on here about a month ago from a girl who ended up with a blood clot and it was something I wouldn't wish on anybody.... and she could have died from it. I don't mean to be all dramatic about it, but better safe than sorry, ya know?
thatDEgirl 1 Posted July 24, 2008 When I went to my pre-op, the admissions nurse said to wear them for 2 weeks. I asked my surgeon's office, because I live in FL and would die from heat with them on. She said I only have to wear them in the hospital and after a while, they actually start doing damage by cutting off your circulation. I'd call and talk to your surgeon. Melody2006 1 Posted July 24, 2008 Call and ask. But those stocking (ted hos) are expensive!
toogoode4u 0 Posted July 24, 2008 I had to wear the compression things on my legs that got pumped continuously by a machine for the day and a half that I was in the hospital and now that I'm home I have to inject myself with Lovenox blood thinner every day for 21 days. Were you sent home with a blood thinner as well?
AliNSanDiego 1 Posted July 24, 2008 I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The nurse said once I got home I could remove the compression socks. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any. JamieNP 20 Posted July 24, 2008 You can powder your legs before you put the hose on. They go on much easier. Also, if they are thigh high, you can roll them down a bit, esp if they are cutting into your leg. They are very important to wear, esp if your surgeon told you to. You DON'T want a DVT or PE!!!! I wear them at work (I'm a nurse and am on my feet all of the time).
just1more 0 Posted July 24, 2008 I had heparin shots every eight hours in the hospital. I did ask my dr if I "had" to wear them. He told me yes unless I could walk a mile in one shot, no breaks, before I left the hospital. I wasnt up for it. What scares me is when I lay down I get a prickely feeling in my right thigh. I guess I'll suck it up and try the baby power. My dr did tell me it was to prevent blood clots which I dont want.
Puju10 0 Posted July 24, 2008 Do you know many that have had a blod clot or PE. I'm trying to get approved for Lap banding and I have had a PE before (blood clots covering my lungs). Just curious.
Me1e 0 Posted July 24, 2008 I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The surgeon said to wear the socks also once I got home for 10 days. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any. Aparently you are still open to high risk of bllo clots for 10days after surgery hence the stockings.... They are a nightmare but could save your life......... wickedme 0 Posted July 24, 2008 I would do what your doctor told you to do. There must be a reason that you are more at risk for clots. I had to wear them after I broke my leg for more then a month for lack of movement.. If they are too tight and its necessary they can get you ones that fit better. I had a family history of heart disease, that was my surgeons reasoning.
Mikochan 0 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, maybe you just need a bigger size if they are cutting off your circulation. I told the nurse that I had huge calves and she measured them and gave me XL compression stockings (which I only had to wear for one day). Did they measure your legs?
