to prevent blood clots. Well I was told to wear them every day for two weeks. Its been three days and they are cutting into my legs and rubbing my skin off. Did anyone wear these and for how long? thoughts on preventing the rubbing?

These are for circulation, right?

OK, I'm not a Dr or anything even CLOSE to it, BUT call them and ask them why you have them (I didn't wear them). If it's for circulation, ask how much you'd have to walk a day to NOT have to wear them, then do it. You have to start NOW.:)

I didn't have to wear them, but if I were you I think I'd check with my doctor. There was a post on here about a month ago from a girl who ended up with a blood clot and it was something I wouldn't wish on anybody.... and she could have died from it. I don't mean to be all dramatic about it, but better safe than sorry, ya know?

When I went to my pre-op, the admissions nurse said to wear them for 2 weeks. I asked my surgeon's office, because I live in FL and would die from heat with them on. She said I only have to wear them in the hospital and after a while, they actually start doing damage by cutting off your circulation. I'd call and talk to your surgeon.

I had to wear the compression things on my legs that got pumped continuously by a machine for the day and a half that I was in the hospital and now that I'm home I have to inject myself with Lovenox blood thinner every day for 21 days. Were you sent home with a blood thinner as well?

I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The nurse said once I got home I could remove the compression socks. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any.

You can powder your legs before you put the hose on. They go on much easier. Also, if they are thigh high, you can roll them down a bit, esp if they are cutting into your leg. They are very important to wear, esp if your surgeon told you to. You DON'T want a DVT or PE!!!! I wear them at work (I'm a nurse and am on my feet all of the time).

I had heparin shots every eight hours in the hospital. I did ask my dr if I "had" to wear them. He told me yes unless I could walk a mile in one shot, no breaks, before I left the hospital. I wasnt up for it. What scares me is when I lay down I get a prickely feeling in my right thigh. I guess I'll suck it up and try the baby power. My dr did tell me it was to prevent blood clots which I dont want.

Do you know many that have had a blod clot or PE. I'm trying to get approved for Lap banding and I have had a PE before (blood clots covering my lungs). Just curious.

I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The surgeon said to wear the socks also once I got home for 10 days. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any. Aparently you are still open to high risk of bllo clots for 10days after surgery hence the stockings....

They are a nightmare but could save your life.........

I would do what your doctor told you to do. There must be a reason that you are more at risk for clots. I had to wear them after I broke my leg for more then a month for lack of movement.. If they are too tight and its necessary they can get you ones that fit better.

I had a family history of heart disease, that was my surgeons reasoning.

Yeah, maybe you just need a bigger size if they are cutting off your circulation. I told the nurse that I had huge calves and she measured them and gave me XL compression stockings (which I only had to wear for one day). Did they measure your legs?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
