Hello, I am new to this website but have really enjoyed and have been encouraged by what I've read. I have been aprroved for my surgery and I am currently doing my pre op test. Did anyone have to have a EGD test done before surgery? If so how was it and were you completely out?

I don't have to have one done prior to surgery, but I have had one done before, and I was put under anesthesia for it. It was a different type of anesthesia though that had me awake and alert a few moments after the procedure was done.

It wasn't bad at all. I think I had a bit of a sore throat afterwards, but nothing too bad.

When you wake up you don't remember anything, the anesthesiologist will make sure you are comfortable during the procedure, but you do wake up faster than you do with a general anesthesia. :)

Hi, thanks for the response. I live in Irving, Tx and you are having the surgery the day before my birthday. Please keep in touch I'd like to know how everything went. I hope to get my date at least by mid Aug. I've just started my pre op testing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
