just banded 7/22/08

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded yesterday and the experience has been very positive. The surgery started a 9:00 am, right on time. I am not sure how long it took but I was waking up in recovery at 10:30. I choose out patient and I am really glad I did. It was nice to be at home afterwards.

I was able to drink Clear liquids immediately and today transistion to all liquids (including strained cream soups). I have some pain in the area of the port but otherwise I do not hurt.

I have spent the day napping on and off and am really glad I do not have to return to work.

I have 5 small incisions and all I have to do is let the steri strips come off by themselves. Showers are okay but no baths.

Easy and simple operation and recovery is easy too. I worried way too much about what would happen as it was all great. I hink the hardest part was paying as I am a self-pay. I am positive that it will be worth it.

Banded by Dr. Billy in Ventura, CA.

Wow! You are doing great! I didn't recover quite as well the first week. I hurt bad. I have 6 incisions. Only the big one hurts, though. I am much better now and I am going to the gym. I find the biggest problem is trying to get enough fluids and calories in me. Imagine that! I used to drink 72 oz of coffee everyday plus more! Keep up the good work!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
