Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am from Enfield, Ct. I was banded on June 9, 2008. My MD is Dr. Darren Tishler from Hartford Hospital. He a great MD and very supportive. I have lost 55lbs since my preop diet May 31st. I had my husbands insurance-CTcare which didn't cover the surgery so I picked up BC/BS at my work and it was covered 80/20.

I'm having a trouble grasping the concept of not being allowed a fill until you lose a certain amount of weight. Isn't the idea of getting a fill so that you improve your chances of losing weight? This worries me a little.

Let me know what you think.

Hey Neighbors!

I am new to the forum, still doing the prelim work for my (hopefully) lap band. I have been recommended for the surgery by my primary care doc and have my nutritionists' and psych appts in the next 10 days.

I'm looking to lose 120 lbs and am currently dealing with type II diabetes and high blood pressure and a family history of heart disease. I am very excited about the possibility for me, and I really want to lose this weight.

I will be doing my band appts in New Haven as well.:)

Welcome EbonyRose! Which hospital are you looking to be banded at? I am planning to be done at St. Raphaels, but I hear that Yale has an excellent program as well. There may well be others, but my insurance really gave me the choice of those two, and my sister has friends who were banded by Dr. V at Saint Raphaels.

B there, Im with you. It doesnt make any sense whatsoever for me. Ive thought long and hard about it, and unless the weight seemed to be a Water retention/swelling issue so they had to proceed with caution, I would have to agree - not filling does not sound like a remotely smart plan!

You are right Dr. B can be a tough one and does not care about TOM so I try to schedule my weigh ins after my TOM. How is everyone doing in their progress.

Hi Everyone. New to the board... but I have already had my surgery.

I had my surgery in August of 2007 and I have lost close to 90lbs already.. Dr. Benbrahim is my doctor, and I think he is EXCELLENT but you must play by his rules. I couldn't ask for a better doctor.

Mornin' Ladies,

Bellasmommy - what kind of routine (exercise, etc) are you following? You've had awesome results and I'd love to duplicate them! I know the band does different things at different paces for different people (how's that for recognizing differences!) but that might give me a starting point and inspiration...

I haven't been banded yet - hopefully soon!

I Agree I haven't been banded yet I hope to Be in the December Bunch but I would love to know what the factors are in your success and what tips you can provide for the inbetween fills stage that I hear so many people say is the hardest.

It's looking like we have a number of people who are in that middle of the state south of Hartford, north of New Haven area. Would anybody be interested in trying to plan an casual once a month (or even once every couple months) support/get together to chat about what we are going through and provide eachother some face to face support?

Count me in as well, Ladies - I'd love to have a group of CT Lapbanders to hang with...though I haven't been banded yet, it would be wonderful to be able to talk with others about the experience.

EbonyRose,

Who is your surgeon? I went to Dr. Nadzam at St Raphael's. Had it done on 2/11 and have lost almost 30 lbs. It is a lot slower than I thought but I do need to exercise. Good luck!

Hey Beachcomber (love your screen name),

I'm looking to get my surgery done at Yale New-Haven Hospital - the doctors there are Robert Bell, Andrew Duffy and Kurt Roberts. I got to meet Dr. Bell briefly at the support group meeting - there were no lap banders there, but got a little good info and got to meet the Doc.

I have my psych appt on Thursday, Nutritionist next week. I've stepped up my exercise (now 4 days a week at the gym) plus I walk daily with my family in the morning and at lunchtime if weather permits.

I know I'm still eating too much - I haven't gained any weight, but haven't lost any real weight either. The same 5 pounds keep going on and off...I really need this surgery, and hope I'm approved soon (have I said that too many times?)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
