Crystal Light good or bad???

Recommended Posts

I drink alot of crystal light and I am doing a 900 calorie a day diet that my DR put me on to lose 30lbs pre surgery. I have been exercising for 1 hour and 20 minutes a day and really doing great on my diet but the weight is coming off really slowly. I read that cystal light will hinder weight loss and was wondering if anyone has heard this also. I quit drinking it yesterday and lost 2lbs this morning. I really like the added flavor to my Water but is it worth it??? Please let me know if anyone has heard this also or if it's ok to drink.

I drink the Wylers drop in drink packets with my Water and the dietitian said it's just fine. I use one packet per 2 glasses of water (1 full water bottle with a flip top lid...no straw) and thats 10 calories. 40 calories a day total for my 8 glasses of water.

My doc suggested adding Crystal light or sugar free Koolaid to Water if I don't like drinking plain Water.

I guess if you are drinking lots of it, it could be causing you to retain Fluid. Crystal light is low in sodium, but depending on how much you are consuming, it could cause you to appear you are not losing as fast.

If you are exercising a lot too, it could be that your weight loss is slow because you are building a little muscle as well.

Just a thought.

Best wishes,

Stephanie

I'm with Stephanie on the "gaining muscle" theory! The studies that have shown that Splenda and other artificial sweetners can actually increase hunger have involved absolutely stuffing mice with the stuff. For me, walking past someone elses lunch increases my appetite...so I think the effect of the Splenda is pretty much not a factor unless you are sucking down a whole box a day :)

My doc said to drink as much as I want 'cause dehydration is bad, bad, bad.

My nutritionist says that Crystal Light is fine, but to make sure I am adding it in as calories. Every calorie counts. :)

I usually double the Water, so I get the flavor, but cut the calories and the sweetness.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
