Need Help/ Encouragement

Recommended Posts

OK so I just went to my dietician appt yesterday, things are ok there. But I get back to work today and find out I still have one more dietician visit and 2 more PCP visits to go before they will submit my PA to insurance. I provided a ton of documentation stating I have been working with a health coach and that I joined a support group and this forum and many other things. I guess all that extra work means nothing......so what have I been doing all this time....I guess just wasting my time. So frustrating!! Any encouragment would be helpful right now.

Don't give up....in my area you have to see psych twice and the nutrition people twice. But thats about it...we don't need all the sleep studies and other studies that most people are talking about...Go with the flow...jump through hoops if you have to...some day it will be worth it...l've jumpped through all my hoops, just waiting for my insurance to approve me...

My insurance doesn't require the 6 month supervised diet, but it has been 4 months since my first seminar, and 3 months since I began a supervised diet under the weight loss clinic supervision. I am still waiting for the surgeon to get approval from insurance, and then they have a 4 week backlog, so it will probably be 5 to 6 months total time for me anyway. My clinic requires the sleep test, nuclear heart tests, ultrasounds and more. Many thousands of dollars worth of tests that my insurance thankfully all covered. Anyway, the only point being you have to work within the system that is available to you, and the insurance coverage that you have. To me it is a great opportunity to have insurance cover this procedure, and it is well worth the effort to play by their rules to make it happen.

If you want your insurance to pay and don't want to go the self pay route, find out exactly what your insurance requires (call if you have to) and get all the appts you need scheduled as soon as you can. That way your not wasting your time and energy on whats not going to get your band paid for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
