Hi all...

I am at the very beginning of the process, just got approval from my primary this week.

I am reading and trying to absorb as much info from you all as I can. THANK YOU!

Anyhow,I am curious about the fills. I gather that they are not part of your oroginal surgical fees, each time you have it done there is a fee? Is it ever added right in to the whole upfront costs? Does ins. cover the fills as well? It seems as though they should since they are a nessessary part of the procedure?

Anyhow, thanks again....I will read on. I am very anxious to have this done.

It's different for everybody. It depends on your insurance whether they will pay for fills. Some people's ins. does pay for them .

My surgery included 3 fills with the price of surgery. I was a self pay. After that, the fills are 160.00 . Some doctors include fills for the first year post op. If you are in a position to check around, get the best deal you can.

A lot of people go to Mexico for the surgery because it's cheaper, but then they have trouble finding someone to do fills after that.

What Denise said...just wanted to add that I have read here that some people had their surgery covered by isurance but then the insurance company didn't want to cover fills. When you check into your coverage, that is something you will want to verify to be on the safe side...seems to me that if they cover surgery they should cover fills but apparently that is not always the case.

Hi. My doctor includes 4 fills in the price of surgery and I lucked out and my insurance does cover fills. Now if only they will approve me quickly after my initial surgeon's consult today! Good luck with your research.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
