Hey All!

Okay so my schedule operation date is Aug 8th.. I go for my pre-test tomorrow... I have been pigging out like no tomorrow because I know that after this band.. No more hold habits.. Anyways.. I hate how I feel.. blah.. I feel like i gained like 20 pounds... So my question to everyone is... what is the liquid pre-diet that they put you onw prior to the surgery..?

Help~~~ LOL..

Eat it all now before your 2 weeks pre-opt and your on liquids only. Once your on liquids only your on it for a long time. You get 3-4 Protein shakes a day, unlimited: Water, sugar free popcycles, broth, sugar free Jello. Thats all my surgeon allowed.

And what made me not cheat even once was reading here is that they do the pre-opt diet to shrink your liver to get around to your stomach or they can't do the surgery with out cutting you wide open. Some have woke up to an "open" lapband surgery where they were cut wide open down their outside stomach and some have been sent home saying they have to try again at another time. I did not want that.

Now I'm 7 days post opt on full liquids only for 2 weeks (SF Jello, SF popcycles, SF pudding, broth, Protein Shakes, watered down cream only Soups, watered down oatmeal) and I'm dying to get to the mushy foods. I'm tired of liquid only! I am down 17 pounds though.

Each doctor is different about the pre-op diet. My surgeon is only asking for one day of liquid for my pre-op diet. Others have posted that they have done two or even three weeks of a pre-op diet. There was a really good post a few eeks ago that talked about shrinking your liver and they pre-op diets. It was very informative and worth looking up. I learned a lot from that post.

I am right there with you! I start my liquid pre-op diet tomorrow (surgery is Aug.5th) and have been shoving any and everything down my throat to "get it out of my system"

I don't know what your doctor's office uses for the liquid diet - but my doctor's office uses the Medifast products. There are shakes, oatmeals, meal bars, Soups, scrambled eggs, and drinks to choose from. I haven't tasted any yet - but either way, at least it only lasts a couple weeks!

Hey I know exactly how you feel.. I made a list of my favorite foods and went on an eating binge before surgery.. i regret it now because in reality you can still eat your favorites its just a much much smaller portion and your full and satisfied. The preop diet I was on was tough but manageable. You can do it and stop beating yourself up and realize the lapband is not a diet! You are not going to feel deprived or feel like you are missing out.. I am so happy with my band and do not feel deprived or like i am missing out on something.. good luck!

That was a great reply Allie, I haven't even gotten a date and felt like I should be eating all kinds of stuff because I won't be able to again..Crazy thinking, and I know it.. I find that the more I explain how the band is really a tool to help me, and not to stop me from eating entirely it is starting to sink in.

The all liquid does frighten me.. Can you drink yogurt drinks and thin Soups or is it all just Clear Liquids??

well I am not sure what time period you are referring to wicked me.. my preop diet was 2 weeks of Optifast ( Liquid Protein drinks) and 2 days of Clear Liquids before surgery then liquids for i think it was a week then full liquids which was yogurts and broths and stuff like that then mushies.. then real food.. i just had a fill the day before yesterday so i am on liquids but not hungry.. i honestly felt like the hardest part of all this was the preop diet but I made it through!!! And you will too. Just take one day at a time. I was so scared about it but it really wasn't that bad and I tried to not watch tv which made me hungry..lol.. good luck and you can email me anytime at 1morrisfamily@comcast.net. allie~

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
