I am scheduled for August 12th!! I understand being away from family and friends, we are a military family. The one person that I would like to come for the banding has recently found a blood clot in her leg a can't travel. Myabe we can be banding buddies and help each other with all of these new and interesting things we are about to embark on. This site is a great way to learn about what to expect and tips to help be prepared.

Melody2006,

Just wondering what kind of pain to expect, I know that every patient is different as far as to what level. I'm taking 5 days off of work, but I'm just trying to imagine myself post-op, did you take the pain meds that the Dr.'s gave you, etc?

So, are you stressing out at all? Do you have the support of your family? Are you open to telling all that want to know, or is it a wait and see kind of thing?

I have no family or friends where I am currently living. I have only told my mom in law, none of my personal family, and one lady from church. I tried to talk to a long time friend about it but she was very distracted on the phone so I didn't even go into it. I have emailed one old friend that I have just found online again and all she wants to know is how she can get it also, so no support there. I am counting on the people of this site for ALL of my support. I bought a "bean" exercise rocker chair type thing this week. My so called supportive hubby was very angry and had a fit because I bought something to help work out (since he hid my stepper in the garage) so I can at least get some flexability before getting the band. If I hadn't found this site I would not be doing this at all. The surgeons office was no help (would rather do the bypass and be done with you) and I have not made any friends since we moved. This site gave me the information and support that I needed to make an informed decission, I read a book or two that were recommended by people on this site, and chated and asked some question in the chat rooms. I even did my first blog entry in my life on this site. Keep reading this site and ask as many questions as you can think of.

The whole process is less pain then I expected, after the surgery my shoulder and jaws where the only things that acted differently. The shoulders felt like a dull pain, the jaws where excited and it seem that I was having some muscle reactions from the shoulder pain. That evening within an hour after surgery I was up and walking in the Short Stay Unit. I was given a list of drugs to get before surgery, when released I rested and relaxed at home taking the pain medicine every 4 hours. The pain threshold was higher because the tape was pulling on the skin and took time for it work out. Come the 2 day I noticed a significant different in my mobility and pain. Essentially there was no pain in the stomach area other then rumbling from not eating my Protein drinks like I was suppose too. One week and 3 days later, no pain no issues at all. The only concern we (the doctor and I) have had is restarting the blood thinner properly. Everything is going great,

I personally would find another Doctor, this is a partnership and it will last longer then a couple of years. Also you are the customer here, let them know how you feel and see if there is a difference in attitude. Living in Texas you have more then one option.

So...is your husband supportive, or, no....I have read a book that I found very helpful in putting things in perspective. It is intitled

It Ain’t Over Till the Thin Lady Sings: How to Make Your Weight Loss Surgery a Lasting Success

By: Michelle Ritchie.

She is a RNY pt, many years p/o, she had lots of great things to say about weightloss and the things that have held us back in having long-term success at weightloss. She also gives many different ideas for Protein supplements & recipes. Hope this helps. I'm pullin' for ya!!

Hi!

I am being banded on the 12th in Everett. I have about 70-80 lbs to lose and am really ready to do this-although I have to admitt I am still a bit nervous.
