I want a salad-almost 4 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

I've been watching what I eat really well. I am supposed to be on mushies until Friday, but today I ate shrimp cocktail (I'm traveling for work and healthy [mushie] food choices are difficult to find). Anyway, the shrimp was fine, I chewed it very carefully and took small bites. Also, I have not had my first fill yet (scheduled for 8/13). What I really really want is a salad...I want some vegetables. Has anyone had a salad between 3-4 weeks? I realize I'll have to cut it up to be very small and have the dressing on the side. It's pretty amazing to me that I am craving a salad and not ice cream, fries or chicken wings!! LOL.

I exercised today too, while at the fancy hotel and did 45 minutes on the tread-mill...burning up 260 calories. Sa-weet.

I did learn today that drinking out of a straw is a bad idea (for me). Woo.

Thanks for the salad advice!

Tuesday will be six weeks for me and I tried salad last week. I kept it simple I used fresh baby spinach leaves (more tender than lettuce and better for ya) some chopped egg, red onion and a few bacon pieces and topped it off with a light parmesean italian.....went down well but only had a little and chewed it very well......

Wow! i just had my 1st f/u appt yesterday and the doc warned me not to try shrimp or tuna for at least 5 more weeks. I was told this week to go to mushies and can try some flaky fish like tilapia, halibut, etc. I tried a bite of chicken salad a couple of days ago and it caused severe pain and made me feel sick. I guess everyone is different.

I am 2 weeks post-op and too have had salad and was fine. I cut it up in small pieces and chewed until it wasn't crunchy anymore. I am glad to hear that I am not the only person not craving sweets.....which is a great thing! That's one less thing our head has control over us with. I went out with a couple of girlfriends this past weekend, they had ice cream, I had a bowl of chili. :seeya:

It's been 26days for me, and afraid to eat salad. I do a V8 instead...I had gotten my first fill yesterday. So after I'm done with full liquids...I'm going to try a salad. I'm so happy they I don't crave sweets either. I heard that's pretty common after the surgery.

I craved salad like crazy and finally tried it at about 4 months out. Turns out it goes down fine. I'm at a pretty good fill level now, as I can no longer eat bread, but the salad still goes down good.

My doc says he doesn't like for us to eat salads, but I don't know why and I love it so much. I mostly skip the lettuce because its so bulky and I can't get a feel for how much I'm eating. I just put all the goodies on my plate and put dressing on that. Yum!

I was scared to try a salad after banding because I had read so many people had trouble with it. I guess I finally tried at 6 - 8 weeks out. I did fine with it. But I have discovered that if I eat crunchier lettuce, like romaine, I do better. Can't say why, but it's just easier to get down. REALLY chew the Tomato skins. Other than that, I eat them all the time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
