Hello Everyone,

I have posted on here before but I am not one to post to often. I am at the end of the road with my pre op information. They faxed over my paper work yesterday and I should have either an approval or denial within the week. I hope it is approved. I am sure it will be, but I will keep my prays and fingers crossed! :)

I am looking to have the actual surgery in June. Around the third week. My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary in Vegas from the 13th until the 20th. I am so excited and scared at the same time. I have never flown before. I am really doing it up before my surgery. And I cant wait to do this. The Lap band seems to really help and it seems to make a lot of you all on here happy. I want that happiness back again. I am sure it will all go fine. Just scared of the D word. I know it is low statistically but still scared. Everyone goes through those emotions.

I will keep you posted on my journey. Hopefully I have a date next week and will be so happy to share it with you all. Thanks for listening.

ooooooo, Bondgirl! Here you go!! I'm gettin' excited for you!!! So glad to have a "local" on LBT with Dr Bauman, who certainly would have been my surgeon had my insurance paid for it. You have to keep us posted! Have you told Eliza? She won't float over to the other threads so you'll have to visit her there in SC. She'll be happy for you too!!

She's gettin a DATE!!!!!

Thanks Kathy! Yes I am so very excited about this. I cant wait. I will let her know. I will post on there soon. I figured I should get out here so others will get to know me. So I can get some support. It is a scary process. I do have my family behind me but I need others that have had this done for the emotional support. Thank you Kathy, you really put out some interesting stuff that helps others on here. Thanks for being so active on here.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
