Went from no restriction to restriction overnight

Recommended Posts

I am 3 1/2 weeks post -op - have been able to eat soft foods and even steak as long as I chew it well no problem - have even had sips of tea during meals no problem - this morning I ate my usual boiled egg for Breakfast, it would not go down and I got sick - at lunch I rolled up some turkey and ate it and it got stuck - feeling I needed to eat something else at 3:30 I ate some mashed potatoes and they got stuck - what is the deal? Thanks

Are you chewing your food until it is applesauce consistancy? I always get stuck if I am really hungry & I dont take the time to really chew my food (especially meat) until it is like applesauce in my mouth

You may have had one piece that got stuck this morning and then irritated your stomach and it swelled. Try taking it easy for a day or two--take a step back on your food and go with mushy stuff or liquids for a meal or two and then gradually add things back in.

It doesn't take much for some poeple to irritate things. Even if you haven't had a fill, some docs put Fluid in the band right away, so it's very possible that you have some restriction already and getting stuck just irritated things.

Sounds like you have probably irritated your stomach. I am 3 weeks post-op and would be scared to death to try steak. I am still on the pureed stage and won't go to soft foods until next week. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

My post op diet is 24-48 liquids

next 4 weeks soft foods (anything with consistency of baby food) ABSOLUTELY NO meat except Fish

Then stage 3 - solid foods (be very cautious in introducing beef, especially steak)

Did your doctor OK eating steak 3 weeks post op?

Just an FYI--my doc had me on solid foods by 3 weeks. I don't think I tried steak for a little while, but I was eating chicken and fish by week three with no trouble.

I'm no expert but I thing it is way too early to be eating steak, chicken, and turkey, or any fibrous meats. Even well chewed it's still a thick chewed up chunk of meat, that doesn't go down well.

My doctor told me I could eat regular food anything I wanted at 3 weeks - I think every doctor is different -he won't do a fill until 6 weeks - I have 2 weeks to go - I have eat mainly fish and soft foods but did eat a small steak for Protein at 3 week and chewed it really well with no problem - my doctor's assistant told me that the reason you are more restricted in the morning is that during the night you get dehydrated and by the end of the day you can eat more

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
