Am I supposed to eat if I am not hungry?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op, so no fill yet. I am on full liquids/mushies/purees for the next several weeks. I had my Protein Shake for Breakfast earlier this morning. My daughter and I are going swimming this afternoon, so I wanted to get my Protein in before we left, as I didn't think I would be able to get two servings in between the time we get home at 6pm, and bedtime at around 10 (and I have never been a late eater). I had some pureed FF refried Beans, chicken, and cheese around 1. I wasn't hungry, but knew I needed the protein. We have made plans to do this all week, should I eat before I go even if I am not hungry? I throw up the pre-made drinks, so taking those along isn't an option. I am scared the cooler won't keep the milk cold enough to make my own, and I don't like them made with Water.

What should I do? Wake up much earlier to get that first one in? I just don't want to mess this up.

Have you tried the SPecial K high protien waters? They are very tasty and would fill the bill for getting some of your Protein in if you are not hungry. Just a thought.

You should eat before, just so you don't pass out from lack of calories.

Think about being active at the pool and baking in the sun. The Protein Water is a good choice for when you are at the pool, but it's important to fuel your body.

That's my opinion.

I tried the Special K protien Water that is the berry flavor and it is a good option. I haven't tried the mixes but they do have a few flavors of them also. Have fun at the pool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
