Questions about losing the weight.

Recommended Posts

I know everyone is different but here is a question maybe some of you can answer or relate to. Whenever I diet the pounds come off quite fast my problem has always been MAINTAINING the weight loss, I can never seem to KEEP off the weight. This is my main reason to get the band to take off the 100lbs I have put on and maintain it. Anyway, if I get approved for surgery and have this done will my weight come off fast like in the past? Anyone have similar experiences?

My weight came off fast in the past and it is coming off faster now. The biggest difference is that I don't feel deprived at all, am not hungry and am not in my "diet" mentality. This is better by far. Plus, if I am not watching my eating closely, I have never gained again. I think it will be easy to maintain since getting it off has been really workable.

That's why I had the band put in, I can lose the weight, but cant keep it off. Im hoping when I start needing to cheat, my band will be at perfect resistance (that sweet spot) and I will be good next time.

What is normal eating after banding? So long as the band is in place, won't we always be restricted in what we can eat?

If you are swollen still from surgery or some doctors do a little prefill in your band at the time of surgery, you may have some restriction. I was like, when is dinner after my surgery. I dont have any restriction other than excess gas. I have no fills. Congrats on being newly banded. Im guessing from your question you must be one who is not feeling able to eat after surgery. It varies.

I think if you were one on a strict pre opt diet you may not feel like eating the house down after surgery too. I wish I felt some restriction, but I dont. Im already in a holding pattern weight wise, gotta get walking again. There is a reason some dont start losing after surgery. Its all will power right now for me. I could eat any food right now if I was allowed.

My experience is like yours. I lose fast, and I gain it back. (check my profile to see my successes, and failures in the past). I have been losing very fast, but it's been so easy. I was hungry the first couple weeks, but now, it's a breeze. In fact, I have to monitor my nutrition very closely to make sure I am getting what I need so I don't lose muscle, and my hair! I have not taken in more than 800 calories in a day yet, but I always make sure I get my Protein, and Vitamins, etc.

Of course, even during the hungry phase, I was so highly motivated not to damage this very expensive new tool, that I had no real temptation to "cheat". It's just a different mentality entirely.

I keep posting this, but it's such a powerful tool, I just have to mention it again. click here Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and start using it now. It will really help when you need to track nutrition.

Good luck!!!

I wish I was one of the ones that weren't hungry, but no, I was very hungry the day after banding and still am hungry. My question was more in the maintenance phase. Once you lose the weight and go into maintenance, what is a normal daily intake of food like? As long as the band is there, even if the fills are taken out, isn't there some restriction which prevents eating bread, Pasta and rice which can swell or stick?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
