How many fills did it take till everything felt just right?

Recommended Posts

First timer I was banded July 15th and lost a total of 29 pounds including pre op. I am still on just liquids and not hungry at all. I was wondering how long has anyone gone without there first. I am thinking as long as I keep losing and able to change the eating habits I will not get a fill until the hunger is unbearable. Any thoughs appreciated.

Rayray, you should only consider a fill if a. you are eating too much and not losing weight of if you are really hungry in between meals. Some people gain a little bit when they move to mushies then solids so don't be frustrated. Weight loss will come with fills. Good luck.

I agree with Julie. I felt pressured to have my first fill despite that I was losing weight. After my first fill, I have not lost ANY WEIGHT. In fact, I gained a few pounds. My bariatric surgeon said at a support group meeting (weeks after my first fill) that he doesn't not expect any restriction of food until the second fill! My second fill is in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to it and to start losing weight again. I would suggest not having a fill until you start slowing down with losing weight or stop losing weight. If I had to do it all over again. That is what I would do. I am not craving food but I have little to none restriction on the amount of food. To succeed with weight loss, we need the added tool of restriction with a fill.

I am at my sweet spot and it's a battle anyway. I get very full from little tiny portions but unfortunately, our brains aren't banded.

I can be completely full but I still crave junk food. I really think it's like a obsessive compulsive disorder. The only thing I can do is not have anything bad in the house, but that doesn't help me when all my friends want to go to lunch and then they order dessert.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel full most all the time and I do not have cravings like I used to have. I believe its a mental/psychological thing to eat more than your body needs or wants. We have to deal with being social by participating with not only eating and drinking but having dessert. It really helps me to know that I can participate but in much smaller amounts and still feel like I have satisifed myself in all areas.

My bariatric surgeon at my support group spoke lat month and he said that the number one problem facing the obstacle of fighting obesity is psychological. I think this is so true. Its a frightening and powerful obstacle. The lapband is one powerful tool to fight this battle.

Congratulations to you for achieving your goal and your wise words.

Head hunger is definitely much stronger than stomach growling I am starving hunger.

I do so well as long as there is nothing around to tempt me. When I go to social functions, I have to repeat in my head over and over, that I am on a diet. People have said this is not a diet, it's a new way of life.

However, if I don't tell myself I am on a diet, some how my brain thinks I can eat anything I want.

The only way a fill would help me at this point is being so tight I can't eat. I have perfect restriction but chocolate just slides right down so easy

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
