Looking for anyone who has experienced this, I have had left shoulder pain since banding on June 30th. I know it is normal from the CO2 they put in your abdomen, but 4 weeks out and it still bothers me. When I burp or hiccup it is a killer. I have talked to my doctor and he said it will pass. I have also talked with a orthopedic dr and he says some times the nerves in our stomach refer the pain. It is driving me crazy. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced it. I have lost 11lbs since surgery. Hey, but can't get my fill for a few more weeks, cuz I'm going out of town the day I was scheduled and was afraid to leave state if something went wrong. I'm still a scaried cat sometimes.

Mine lasted for 5 or 6 weeks until it lessoned. Now I get an occasional twinge if I eat too much. It was really bad the first four weeks or so. The only thing that really helped was a little massage and taking a bath where I soak my neck and shoulders in very hot Water but keep my incisions above the Water.

I have a hiatal hernia repair done during surgery so it might have contributed to extra pain. It was not the gas but it was mentioned that there is a nerve in the diaphram which was the most likely culprit. It definitely passed and I am good now.

Hi

I had the horrible shoulder pain for a long time after surgery. For me it was gas, I would have a burp (belch) finally come out that could rival a football team. No joke, then the pain would go away. Try massaging your shoulder and get up and walk around right after you eat and drink, it sometimes would help.

I think I can help you! I had surgery June 30th also, but I didn't start having shoulder pain until last week. The pain was so severe I was in tears. After talking to my Dr's office I worked things out and the pain is completely gone now! I started taking, under the advice of my physician, Zantac twice a day. I eat six or seven 1/2 cup meals a day. I am still on the pureed stage. I stop at 1/2 a cup and eat no more! It I am still hungry 30 minutes later I'll have a bit more. This has made my shoulder pain go completely away. The NP at my Dr's office thought I may have been eating too much and having acid production too, even though I had no heartburn. I hope this helps and that you feel better soon!

Thanks so much, glad to know I'm not alone. Hopefully it will pass. I also had hiatal hernia repair. Good luck and thanks again.

I also feel pain in left shoulder when I eat too much too quickly. This is known as "refered pain". Just like when your jaw, arm and shoulder will hurt and ache while having a heart attack.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
