Hello all! I am considering getting lapband surgery but don't know if my insurance will cover it. Do any of you have Blue Cross?

Best thing to do is to call your insurance company and ask them. Even though many have Blue Cross, whether or not WLS is covered depends on the individual plan. Some plans and employers have an exclusion in their policies, some don't.

I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield through UPS and my surgery was covered. We have an 85/15 plan, so I did have to pay some, but not nearly as much as self pay.

Really the only way to know is to call your insurance. There are many Blue Crosses - I have BC of North Carolina which is not the same as BC in another state. And even though mine was covered, another employer might exclude it. No one here can tell you if you're covered, but you might be able to find people with your same insurance in your same state who can tell you how long approval took, what the requirements were, etc.

I have Anthem Blue Cross HMO, I called the number on my card and spoke to my insurance directly. That way I was able to tell my Dr that the insurance said they would pay. You have to meet the requirements, BMI over 40 and such, but call the number on your card and speak to customer service. The person I spoke to told me She and several others in her office had the Lap Band. She was a godsend!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
