Steve,

Congratulations!!! Now you are on the downward path. I have such a long time to wait. Still waiting for my first appointment with the surgeon. They were supposed to get back to me yesterday to see if they could move it up, but nothing, of course. It was my birthday so I could care less. But I want to get mine over with.

Please keep us up to date with how you're doing. Mexico is an option that I may look into if this surgeon doesn't pan out.

Take care.

Good luck and congrats on getting banded. How are u feeling? I too hope us will be able to see Avery. I have a 4 year old (and 5 and 17). Could not imagine not seeing them. Am 260 only 5' 4" and feel like an outcast and a symbol of ridicule at times. Only those of us who have trully struggled understand. Am scheduled to be banded at NYU on 9/16 if all goes well. I so much want myself my children and my husband and friends to enjoy a thinner me. Since I have decided on the band it seems like I am taking better care of myself. Of course I am scared that I will slime and not be able to eat. But I am so looking forward to a new life that will last. The latter about keeping the weight off is the part that those who have not struggled do not understand

All the best steve let us know how your journey goes and I will do the same. Best of the bestest wishes

Hope is alive

hopelives...

IT is a struggle, and let me tell you going two weeks without food isn't easy and I'm only on my 5th day...

You hang in, the 16th is fast approaching :-)

OH! As for Avery, I didn't mean to give the impression I don't see her. I just see her as most divorced fathers, every other wknd holidays and EVERY single day I can sneak in between.

I have a great relationship with my daughter, but without being with her every day it'll never be the situation I would've imagined. I simply want to be there, side by side with my daughter every day.

I'm sure you understand.

Keep on keeping on!

Hopelives... I live in Nyc also. I originally wanted to go to Nyu Medical Center with Dr Ren & Fielding But A Coordinator(allison) told me that I wasn't heavy enough and that my bmi had to be 40.

I was like wth my bmi was 39!! Anyways she told me to gain 5-10lbs and I would be ready to proceed. No one ever told me that I need to gain weight b4. But the process was a 6 month journey.

My mom & I decided to go 2 Mexico with Dr. Kuri instead. I didn't get my exact date yet but I am to be banded hopefully by the end of this month.

Congrats to Steve-stay strong and focused and you'll be just fine.

Hello everyone, name is Steve and my surgery date is fast approaching. I'm learning things by the seat of my pants after having switched gears from a U.S. surgery to a Mexico based surgery.

Pre Op diets all seem to be different.

Advice seems to all be different.

I am anxious, and a tad bit nervous....

I'm a 34 year old who is recently divorced from my wife (and daughter). Yah, the daughter was the big loss. Since my separation and subsequent divorce I've gain.. you ready..... 245 lbs! Yah, I basically doubled in size battling depression and separation anxiety disorder while I adjust to life without my daughter in my life everyday.

In the past I managed to lose 260 lbs on my own, working out and eating healthy. That occurred from Jan 01 to December 01.. Thats right, 11.5 months and it was all gone! The weight was off...

Then, I met the girl of my dreams.. Got married, had my daughter Avery and settled into a nice lil life... for a while.. then it happened... Divorce.. eating problems, and I went off the deep end gaining about 10-12 lbs a month for two years and hear I am now...

This is a must, I tasted the good life.. and want it back..

Just wanted to update everyone and come back and read the support that everyone is so good at providing.

I'm now 6 days post op and NEVER in my life thought I'd be so excited to eat a can of cream Soup (tomorrow I enter full liquids)

I've tackled this head on, no matter the pains and hunger strikes I've NOT cheated one time, nor will I during this clear liquid/full liquid phase. I've got a game plan for dealing with my return to "food" when I'm allowed mushies next week, and then "soft foods" the following week.

Advice to everyone, develop a game plan and plan out a nice menu. You'll feel much better with a plan mentally by creating sort of a "new world" which your now a part of.

I'm also reserving scale watching to others, I will not get on a scale until one month POST OP. Why you ask? "I am just so curious" people say!

I don't want to see the ups and downs that are typical/normal/expected when you go from liquids to full liquids and then introduce food back into your diet. You'll lose, sure! Then lose some more, awesome! Then when you get back to some mushies and soft foods during the second half of the month there will be a time where you put on a few pounds.

I've decided i don't want to see the fluctuation, I won't let the scale determine my daily happiness.

After one month it'll just be a number, then I'll look again after month two.

Thats my Plan! Just me... nobody else's

Nite everyone!!

Hello, its been WAY TOO long since I've been here to update everyone...

Things are now one year and nearly one month in, meaning I was banded nearly 13 months ago.

So far I'm down approximately 167 lbs, and I feel absolutely wonderful.

Life is good, going well and I'm just getting ready to join the local gym again for the first time in 5 years! Thats a huge step, and will no doubt help me continue down this path to a healthier me :-)

I'll post more when I can...things are going well :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
