Help - was banded on Friday - now 4 days later and I have gained 4 pounds. My diet isn't as strict as some - can eat Soups etc already - what if I have spent all of this money and this doesn't work????

I gained 9 pounds in 3 days after my surgery. It is probably just Fluid gain from your body going through a stressful time - surgery. My doctor told me not to panic, that it would go away within a week. He also said we shouldn't expect to lose until we start to feel some restriction. He was right about getting rid of the Fluid. It took me about a week and it's been mostly downward since then.

Relax, recuperate, and take care. It will come off if you follow a reasonable diet.

Good luck.

Sue

Don't worry about it, it's normal and happens to everybody. Your body needs to get rid of all of the gas and is swollen. It will come off.

Sue, you are my HERO! That is so great to have lost so much weight. I am one of the heavier folk I see up here. I tipped the scale at 305 lbs. I gained weight on the pre-op diet (didn't mean to) and was five pounds heavier when I got home, but after the gas went away, the horrible, horrible gas, I felt better and the weight starting coming off. I'm a week out and I'm just starting mushy foods.

Even though I can probably eat some ice cream now, I don't. Its all about choices. Don't sweat it though, as long as you are following doc's orders, you'll be fine!

Congrats on the surgery! Get ready for the ride of your life

The second day after my surgery (7/17/08) I weighed myself and I was 4 pounds heavier than my surgery date. Today when I got on the scale I was 5 lbs. lighter than my surgery date. Your body retains Water and other fluids after surgery. I noticed that the last two days I have been urinating more than I have been drinking and at the same time my swelling has drastically gone down...that explains the 9 lbs weight loss since Saturday.

Yeah I am not happy with my journey so far. Today I went in for my 1st fill & I am up 4lbs since surgery.

My Dr. said at my 1 week post op appt that I probably wouldn't feel any restriction until about the 3rd fill. Not my idea of fun, but I am in it for the long haul.

I need to be sure to eat as if I have restriction even though I don't. So I assume that is about 2oz at a time. Fun, fun, fun. LOL

Ok enough for now.

I hope everyone does awesome this week!!!! :scared2:

I gained 5 lbs after surgery, and I was told it was from all the fluids they pump in you through the I.V. during your hospital stay, plus the swelling and gas. After 1 week the added weight fell off plus some! Give it time! It will all come off. Don't worry!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
